DIY Archery hunt in Colorado

I am looking for any advice on picking a unit to hunt elk in Colorado. I am going with three buddies and it's going to be our first elk hunt. We are planning a five day hunt the first or second week. Which is the better week to go? I have been studying Google earth and hunt colorado map on basecamp. Looking at access point and public land. So far I have looked over 14, 25, 74 and 75. Has anyone had success in these areas?
