Do people gun hunt from tree stands?

I never have, but I know folks do in the mid-west. I\'ve never seen someone doing it in CO during the rifle season though.

Heck yeah.
I shot this cow from a tree stand in 2011.
5 came thru and I plugged one

One year, Muzzloaders set up treestands just inside Wilderness in my area. They made a heck of a lot of noise setting them up while I was out archery hunting that morning. It was the same year that someone set out 15+ trail cameras on a large meadow. The area is generally medium to dense timber. It is a a long bench leading from food to water to bedding.

In the thick timber in the Midwest I do. You have a longer range with a gun so the scent isn\'t the problem it is the ground cover and weeds or brush. I can see deer coming a lot further away if I get up in the air a little.

To add on to this....

Are people only using tree stands with bars extending out in front of them?

Are you bringing shooting sticks up there?

Or are you free handing it?

Free hand in front. I rest against the tree for anything to the sides or back. I prefer to always have a rest if I can find something. I would probably drop the stick and scare the deer away

yes, in mo almost everyone hunts from a stand. you can see alot farther from one. would be great for elk to. as far as shooting from it, it always depended on the treestand, tree, etc. sometimes my stands had limbs i could shoot off, i dont like the stands with rails as they never seemed to be the right height for me. shooting sticks would work fine though. i wouldnt free hand it, esp at ranges out west.

I have hunted for years, 25+, with a gun for deer. heck I shot my doe last fall with a ml in a tree stand. if you have an area in the elk woods, I don\'t see why it wouldn\'t work.
