Is this a good shot to take?

Oh Brad you had to lure me into this one. With a bow. If you are a good shot there is a small \"thumb\" of grass right below his right antler back fork. If you have a \"slower\" arrow (300FPS or slower). Put you 20 yard pin on the top and 2\" to the right of that thumb and the arrow will clear the grass and drop right in. Dead bull.

With a 300 WSM. NO PROBLEM.

No devils advocate here, tell you straight up that up Im shooting.

At 30 yds your arrow\'s trajectory will rise right over the grass and enter bull right where you want it.

The 30yd pin will be right where the grass meets the target. At 20 yds, the arrow flight will be about 5 in higher.

In fact, a bullet will hit more grass than an arrow will

I am shooting. The shot is simular to what I had this year. I could slip an arrow just over that grass and get me some lungs. Yes the heart is a little lower but 2 deflated lungs will do the trick. OOOOOps I used the D word

Shooting here ... With anything ... I think it\'s unlikely that the grass will affect anything at all here.

So I guess you all are absolutely sure there\'s no stickers? (Fallen trees or branches sticking up from the ground). Chances are there\'s nothing their to deflect the arrow. So it\'s ok to take the trick shot because chances are good!?

I would likely take the shot. I can\'t tell if the grass is thinner to his right though. If it is, I\'ll let him take another step or two.

I do agree its a high percentage shot, having time to think about it. I think in the heat of the moment I would pass. I want to see the where I want the arrow to hit.

No doubt, I am shooting. I see a cleat path to the bull\'s vitals. If I pass on this, I am kicking myself all winter.

I am definitely shooting this shot. As cnelk explained with his graph your arrow will arch right over the grass and drop right in for a clean kill. With a rifle it is a no brainer,I am shooting him high in the lungs.

The slower the arrow, the higher the arch. At 260fps, my arrow will arch over the grass and land right in the sweet spot. I would shoot.

When shooting at longer distances, here is a tip that might help some of you out. Lets use the example of a 40 yard shot. Put your 40 yard pin on the target. Then quickly glance at your 30 and 20 yard pins. They will show you where the arch of the arrow will be at those ranges on its path to the target. If either of the pins happens to be in line with another object (lets say a tree branch for example) other than the intended target, wait for a clearer shot unless you like shooting trees.

Hope that makes since. Sometimes my explanations are clear as mud :tease:

I see what the shooters are talking about but I\'m waiting. Not seeing the spot I want to hit and have the arrow exit means no shot for me.

Yes I am shooting. I would say it\'s a descent shot maybe not a \'good\' one. I have confidence in my ability on a shot I call descent.

Yes, I\'d shoot. But, I\'ll also point out that in situations such as this I\'d have picked the spot I wanted him to be in before deciding when to draw. So, I\'d likely not find myself at full draw until he stepped a few feet further and I was totally clear. All that said, if I was at full draw and he stopped here, I\'d have full confindence in making a perfect shot here. I shoot through grass like this at targets quite a bit and have never seen any signifigant deflection. All bowhunters should take shots like this in practice sessions before deciding one way or another to take or pass this.

Yup, I\'m shooting. And as Will said, practicing those kinds of shots is important IMO. I frequently move my target bag around in the backyard to where I have to \"thread the needle\" between a large cotton wood tree we\'ve got, leaving a small sliver of bag for me to hit.
