do you think coffee actually wakes you up?

caffiene..is a stimulant. i get it.

i kinda think it doesnt do a thing for me. i drink it more because i like it, or it\'s habit. if i dont drink it, i wake up the same. slowly. if i\'m sipping it on a roadtrip while driving, i am still sleepy as heck. if it try to go to sleep, i wont be able to sleep, but i\'ll be tired as hell, just cant sleep. (so maybe in that sense it works).

anyone quit cold turkey?
 
28 years ago, I quit once cold turkey when I was up to 4-5 cups a day M-F. I would get headaches on weekends because I did not drink much on weekends. I grew up drinking coffee starting in elementary school. I love coffee. Going without only lasted until I started grad school at night. I had to go back to coffee. I missed it too. I sometimes do half cafe.

I now drink 1-2 cups each morning, plus Mate tea during the day. I do not drink any coffee on hunting mornings. I only drink one Frappuccino. For backpacking, I stopped drinking coffee. I don\'t think coffee does anything to wake me up.

What wakes me up the most is drinking 1/2 liter of water within 1 hour of getting out bed and another 1/2 liter in the next hour.

I also make sure I drink another liter by 1 pm. For late afternoon, I will drink more water if I feel tired. I taper off in the evenings.

While hiking and hunting, I am not as good at drinking water. However, moving wakes me up.

I also get tired if I get hungry. I nibble throughout the day.
 
i dont think it does a thing for me as far as waking me up. i do like a hot cup to drink though instead of something cold. just refreshes me
 
I consider coffee the \'nectar of the gods\'.

I don\'t like a heavy blend nor do I like Starbucks

Does it wake me up?
Not sure, but I do know it wakes up my digestive system
 
Im pretty much with everyone else.

I drink it because I like it, not for the energy.



My day is just that much nicer when I have a cup of coffee. :upthumb:
 
Caffeine is a drug to which MOST of us develop a tolerance very quickly. Overall, I think it\'s a pretty decent drug, though as others have noted, probably not potent enough. I\'ve read that it does speed up timed tests of math, etc.

Even though I\'m not overly impressed, I figure: Why take chances? :D I\'ll take my caffeine, chocolate, and alcohol regularly as there\'s a lot of evidence that these things really help improve quality of life. I don\'t want to be a science-denier.
 
Brw. My doctor said its the warm liquid that sends you scurrying for the toilet. Not coffee. She said warm water does the same thing.

I like a cup or two every morning. But if I miss a day or two, it\'s no big deal and I feel the same.

I used to be a long distance driver and I found that a large diet pepsi and a box of cheese-its was usually good for around 500 miles.
