John asked about our likes and dislikes as it pertains to the current elk forum. This is a little different. I would like to hear from you about things you would like to see happen on the forum, things we should avoid and pet peeves as it relates to the forum. I probably don\'t need to add this, but I will remind you that if what you think would make the forum better costs much, it probably won\'t happen unless we all get behind it.

Most forums are similar because -- there\'s only so much you can do with a forum. It\'s a spot to open up discussions and you just hope good people show up.

That said ...

I\'d suggest a \"resources\" list ... not the usual kind (web sites of game and fish, phone numbers, etc.) but more in-depth. \"Calling resources\", for example, could have a list of some really good discussions on this forum (perhaps as well as others) and links to videos and even, maybe, items for sale. A newbie, for example, might have a question about calling, but may also need to \"do his/her homework\". This could be links to that \"homework\".

Same for, say, navigation ... links to good discussions about maps, GPS, navigation in general, etc. \"Homework\". Things to read before posting questions, so that a person can make even better questions.

The \"resources list\" should also have links to Game and Fish of the various states, application deadlines, maybe a basic explanation of the differences in application times and types, preference points, bonus points, etc.

I\'ve tried to resist saying this, but it\'s too good of an opportunity to bust Swede\'s chops.

Sometimes spell check does not catch it all do\'s it?

I don\'t know a lot about forums. I\'ve only participated in one other forum and not found it to be near as helpful as this one. I think it\'s largely due to the people on this one. I\'m very satisfied with my experience here. Great people who have been so generous with their experience and knowledge. I like also like the fact that is there is a good mix of western hunters and folks like me who are only visiting the Rockies and don\'t get to live out West (maybe someday!) Wished I could offer some great suggestions here but I think whomever is responsible for facilitating the forum is doing a great job and I appreciate all of the members\' help they have given me over the last several months.

John, I was thinking that could be situated in the archives and be catalogued like you have done before. If you prefer we could call it a resource list and archives.

My opinion... It\'s the folks that make the forum... The forum does make the folks...

On some forums ya can\'t start a discussion with someone dumpin\' all over ya...

I would like to see the who\'s on, newest member and total members back on again....

So maybe we can start a thread and give everyone a chance to post useful links. At first, we\'d build a big list then add more as they get requested. Also, thinking they should be categorized. Thoughts?

I think to make something like this an actual attraction to the website it needs to be more than links that one could get more easily from Google. I\'ve seen those on other sites ... I don\'t think I\'d ever go to Cabelas.com to search for the link to my state game and fish agency, but they have/had a list like that.

No, I think a useful list would be to look at the forum (and external links if the moderators agree) and organize it by topic like this: If a person were looking at getting into calling, for instance, what links would you suggest they read?

In other words, if a friend who wasn\'t part of the forum asked you your opinion on treestand hunting elk, you\'d probably talk to them a bit and then say something like \"You have got to read Link X and Link Y ... we had a great discussion on the forum last year about this\". Oh, and maybe that\'d be a good place to pimp Swede\'s book!

I think your right tick. Links must be very specific to a particular topic. An example would be Dana\'s post on boot laces.
