Now that my bulls down and the meats in the freezer it's time to head back out and see if I can't get my old man into the elk before the rut peters out.  He's been out in the little belts (MT) over the previous week and hasn't had much success.  Hoping I can turn his luck around and re-pay him the favor of packing out some quarters for his freezer.  Are people still hearing the bulls scream out there or are they winding down already?  Haven't been out in the field (except to chase some whitetails) since getting my bull so any information can help me decide if I should be setting up to call or beginning to get up high and glass for the herds coming back together post-rut.  What's the word?

I guess I should mention we don't head out until the 29th of sept... I'm sure they're currently rutting pretty well, but I'm anticipating a dwindle by the end of the month.

im in the big belts and they are starting to herd up, you may still call in a satellite bull and the big ones are still talking but not very likely to call in the herd bull any more.
