Dove Hunting

Well, as difficult as it was now that I have a bow and an archery elk tag burning a hole in my pocket, I decided to go dove hunting last week for the opener (Sept 1). Unfortunately, things were incredibly slow this year due to the extreme amount of water they have gotten down in southwest Colorado. Last year, four of us limited out by 9:30am (60 doves). This year, we got 9 in the morning, and with pretty good shooting too! We only missed one or two.

Very little shooting, but at least we were able to go get our rifles sighted in during the mid-day slow time, so it wasn\'t a complete waste. But next year\'s decision might be a little tougher to make! :wtf:

Let\'s see, Derek... If I lived in Colorado, had a choice between dove and elk hunting and didn\'t know which one to pick, I\'d talk to my most trusted friend when it comes to hunting, myself, and then we\'d both decide to elk hunt...

Main reason 1 elk = 20,000 or so dove when it come to meat :D :D

Now if it was duck hunting....

Yeah, I hear ya Phil. The tough part about the decision is that dove hunting is only typically good early in the season, so if I was going to go that was the time or skip it for the year. And I already have one week set aside for rifle hunting during 1st season along with one long weekend for archery hunting. Add in another scattered day or two for archery, and I\'ll still get some time up there. The elk are starting to show up on the cameras in our new archery area too, so it\'s getting me pumped!

We\'ll see...of course I have a cow tag for archery season and a bull tag for rifle. Guess where the game cam is?
