I as I am sitting n my blind in Nebraska, it occurred to me how similar chasing elk with my bow is to chasing these gobbling ghosts. You use a call to locate each and for me it happens to be a diaghram, once located a plan of attack is quickly thought out put into play. Sometimes they come charging in and attack the decoys, sometimes completely quiet and sneaky, sometimes I gobble at them other times just sweet talk them with the unseen female chatter. Is not elk hunting but it is a great way to stay in the field and have fun.

Seems like there are just as many busts for both, but I don?t get as upset over a turkey bust!

I've found the same thing, especially when hunting them in the mountains. Colorado's season opens this Saturday and I can't wait. Combine the calling and stalking through the mountains, picking different setups, and trying to close the deal with camping in a wall tent for a couple days and it's like September in April! Can't wait!!!

I thought the same thing on our opening day. I sat my decoys out and was doing some light calling. There was one gobbler just hammering on the roost. He would gobble as cars drove by. I look through the trees and I see this blue head working my way. He is silent but coming my way. I let out a few little calls and he came closer a few more then he sounded off with a gobble. Then he stopped. He knew there were supposed to be turkeys but he couldn?t see anything. He strutted for a few minutes I let out a few soft calls and he hammered again. It?s then when I realized and it made me think about one of Chris Roes YouTube videos about elk and entering through that magical door. He came through it but I setup wrong. My decoys were below a small rise that I didn?t detect when it was dark and from his view he couldn?t see them. He milled around for maybe 5-10 minuets before strutting off. I?m always learning something in the woods and I firmly believe that elk and turkey hunting are very much the same.
