Howdy All,

Just got drawn for the bull archery tag in KY.  Never have hunted for elk before and was wondering what the best broad head out ther for elk.  I currently have the toxic broad heads.

I am also a fan of Solids. I got them flying great with my field tips out to 60 yds so far. I also like QAD Exidus, but my Solid fly better.  Lots of good heads out there.

there are so many good ones out there right now its hard to say which is best i will tell you that dirt nap is offering a members discount here on the 101 site

The toxic will work on elk.  I used it last year and had a complete pass through @ 21 yards.  Clean entry, through a rib on the exit, buried in the ground on the other side. Double lung, the bull ran 30 yards.  I am using them again this year.

Lots of good Bh's out there.

I've never shot the Toxic's, but if they fly well out of your bow I'd probably use them.

Personally, I shoot Slick Trick standards and Montec CS's for elk.

I'd just stay away from expandables

I have shot a couple different broadheads. Fixed blade, I like the G5 Striker and Expandables, I like the Ulmer Edge. Its all personal preference and how the head treats the arrow.

I don't know why everyone hates mechanicals these days. They failed when they first came out but the technology they have in them these days. If it will punch through a 300lb wild boars shoulder then it will survive a Elk. The blood trail difference for me has been huge. I love the Rage two blades but in washington I am forced to shoot fixed so I go with the G5 montec. If you stick with the toxics then I hope you are shooting 70#. Those broadheads can do some damage but that is due to there cutting area. With that much cutting area it takes alot from penetration! With Elk you need the penetration!
