The world is full of useful tools and people are always trying to improve on what we have or know. Sometimes I go for something that appeals to me, but usually I stick with what I already have, and know. This year I finally decided to give Elk Mountain Gear\'s umbrella system a try. I knew it was a good system, but I don\'t have a need for a decoy very often. I sit in a tree and hunt from there most of the time.
Before I received the Slip System, my son used it for several days. Neither of us got an elk this year, but we had it long enough to come to appreciate its usefulness. It has several applications, but what I liked best was that, it can be an instant blind or an instant decoy. I also saw its usefulness as a quick shelter. I have several other decoys. None are as quick and easy to set up, and none offer any other benefits. For the most part they just take up space until I unroll them and start hanging them up. Often they are in the wrong spot or are faced in the wrong direction when the bull finally shows up. Most of the time they are left in camp because they are more trouble than they are worth. You won\'t have that problem with the Slip System.

I used it this season as well.

A couple encounters I forgot I had it. My last encounter, I was calling and in lazy mode. Really wish I had deployed it then! :)

Also, great instant shad and was very useful during a downpour.

Thumbs up Jeff.

Thanks guys.

Even though I\'ve been hunting with these for almost 5 years now, I\'m still coming up with new and better ways to use it, and not just as a blind or decoy.

One revelation I had this Season, was to walk without the rubber foot on during my elk hunt. I found I could get a better purchase when I really needed to dig in on steep slopes, logs, etc. And best of all, when I needed both hands free, I would just stab it in the ground. It reduced the chances of me laying it down and accidentally leaving it behind.

Here\'s a little video I put together last Season showing some of the applications relating to elk hunting:

Some good tips on using the decoy Jeff. I was thinking how to improve the odds by using Lou\'s elk hat along with the rump decoy. When you raise up to shoot, it would look just like an elk looking back over his tail end.

Good idea, Bill. I\'ll bet Lou has done it.

I think it would work well on a cold calling setup, might buy you some time if a bull sneaks in on you :upthumb:
