How about cyber scouting? Its a 1650 mile drive from where i live in VA to CO where i hunt. What is some of the key things you should look for on a map or google earth when picking a area to hunt. How to find good info to key in on a general area before looking at maps and maybe just basic scouting tips for people who have never hunted or scouted for elk. It took me 4 trips to tag my first elk but there's a lot of good info online that can really help if you know how to find it. Thanks, love this site.
were to find and how to read any info on what general hunting areas in what states to find best odds for any bull, or mature bulls and or even cows as some people may want to know. I am from Montana and cant seem to find much of this info and talking to Fwp doesn't seem to help as most know less than I do. And also any info on finding trail heads if you have never been in an area. I know its been tough for me and I lived here my whole life, I can only imagine what its like for someone from another state.
Hi Corey, It's been a long time. I think an article giving step by step instructions for planning a nonresident hunt. (when to apply, where to find maps, Outfitter/guides associations, etc) would be good. Article should probably appear 1st month of new year.
Really enjoyed reading the last issue of Extreme Elk and the article about different calling tactics for success. I have been only hunting archery elk for 10 years so I have a few unconventional favorites that bring me success at times.What I'd like to hear more of is "try this setup/scenario it worked for me 2 times in ..."
Some of that data might pop into my head as I'm working a stubborn bull someday...
