When it come to elk hunting I like it hot and dry. Ninety degrees is not too much. As a tree stand hunter, that usually sits over a water hole, I like being in a semiarid area with limited water available. It is best if the elk in the area have a high probability of coming my way when they get up from their mid day nap.
We all hunt different times and places. What do you prefer when it comes to weather, where and when you hunt?

I like to hunt in a light snow. It puts me in the right mood, and keeps the ground quiet.

In the Colorado mountains it can happen for any season.

Still hunting in the snow? Be careful. You could get hypothermia Pete. I remember hunting that way. It was a lot of fun.

I must be a wuss. I prefer sunny and in the lower to mid 60\'s for highs. cool, lower 30s in the mornings is great.

Clear and cool and calm for me. Highs in the mid to low 50\'s. Lows in the 20\'s with a heavy frost to keep the ground moist and quiet. That weather just puts me in the right mood for elk hunting.

I\'m with Andy, but I have noticed more bugling when it is these temps but cloudy.

I\'m a hot blooded Italian. I never get cold. ;)

I\'m with Andy and Brad (and Francis)...that type of weather seems to get the bulls sounding off, especially the last 2 weeks of the Season.

I\'ve seen great action just after heavy downpour when it slows to a drizzle on and off. I mean the type of weather that has even the elk heading for cover. When this breaks ( during the rut) all hell will break loose!!

Who wants to hunt in even a drizzle? You get wet. A light snow just brushes off you.

Pete,

Ive stood in 8 hours of rain before to get a 45 second window to shoot at a doe.
I would much rather hunt snow, but I will play in the drizzle any day.

I hate getting wet, and cold too.
But I tell ya! There is some great light weight gear that lets you hunt in the drizzle without steaming up and not get wet at the same time!
