I live in central Colorado (Nathrop) and am archery hunting GMU481. Last night saw a herd of elk in a ranchers alfalfa next to the highway (8000'). I know their is a big herd on the northern slopes of Mt Harvard close to 14,000' as well. We've had a rainy summer after a snowy spring and there is lots of green grass. Any thoughts why a herd would drop down so low to graze surrounded by people when the hills are so lush this year? Anyone have advice as to how a wet spring and summer will affect the elk come late August, early September? Getting excited to do my final scouting and then get out there!
