Where i have been hunting I fing elk at first light crossing the high ridges.
I have located a bedding area they seem to be at by 10am sometimes earlier.
what I cant figure out is what they do in the evening.  From your experiences where do you find elk in th the evening xbelow beds or are they up high in the evenings before dark?  The bedding has water running threw the edge of it. I expect the elk hit that water during the day. Will elk go low in the evening or do they stay up high?  I find  them so high at first light so not sure if they stay there all night or came from lower.
I realize all area are different just looking for ideas from frow your experiences.
Thx...

if you know where they are consistently bedding in the afternoon id say you have half the battle won.

Thats somewhat true. Glad I have found a good bedding area but it is so thick I wont hunt the bedding area again way to risky blowing them out of there. Did that last year.  Trying to figure out what they do in the evening hours has been tricky. They seem to move out of there like a ghost. Planning to hunt the edges of the bedding area more. Just looking for advice on where to try locating them in the evenings.thx.

I do most my spot and stalk in the morning or if we put them to bed. Most afternoons to evenings I sit in my stands by water or wallows. I have elk hunted since the 70's if there is one thing I have learned while elk hunting is that I need to learn more. Every year they pull something on me. Thats what I enjoyabout archery hunting elk.

P.S I am a slow learner

In my area they usually go to the same spots in the evening as they do in the morning, but when it is hot out they will almost always head for water just before dark .

Likely not far from where you are seeing them in the morning. I suspect they're sneaking out to feed near that ridgeline.

To figure it out for certain, might need to camp near there and let out some location bulges at night to see if you can get a response. Sure helps when they just tell you where they're at :)

I'd be spending some early morning time on that ridgeline, though. Sounds like a great opportunity!
