Terry sent me a box of elk steaks and burger from his bull (thanks) I\'m going to cook some this weekend. I hope it turns out good, the better my wife likes it the less trouble I have with her letting me go elk hunting again next year. Any recipes, I\'m all ears! :angle:

I\'m sure I will, the key is making my wife like it enought to want me to elk hunt more. She was raised on fresh beef and pork from their farm so I\'ll have to make sure and prepare it well. I\'m afraid if I don\'t get it right the first time, she won\'t try it again therefore making my future elk hunts a little more complicated.

Elk steaks can be difficult to prepare.
Biggest thing is to not over cook the meat

Here are a couple ways I have done them:

4 hours before eating
Lay steaks out and tenderize with fork
Do a salt/pepper rub. Lay 2 pieces of bacon on them and attach with toothpicks
Cover with saran wrap and put back in frig for 3 hours
Remove from frig and let meat rest at room temp for 1 hour
Heat grill to 400
Place steaks on grill put lid down - cook 3-4 min or so
Lift lid and turn steaks - put lid down and cook 3-4 min

Remove from grill and \'tent\' the meat with foil for 5 min

Enjoy

4+ hours before eating
Tenderize with fork
Place steaks in ziploc bag
Add some soy sauce, pepper and bbq sauce
Shake ingredients together to coat steaks
Place in frig
Heat grill to 400
Cook steaks - only turn once - monitor cooking process
Enjoy

I\'ve always thought elk taste like really good beef if it was taken care of. Way better than the best deer venison.

She should like it if she likes beef.

While all those look really good I prefer a simple Sea salt and Ground black pepper rub. Simple and delicious.

I\'m the same way. I just use pepper on the meat I cook. If it taste bad i\'ll know it fast. ;)
