After my recent regular visit to my pulmonary doctor it's been become more apparent the Elk are safer now and if the trend continues so are the deer and ducks... :-( :-(

More rehab is in the near future... :train: :train:

So my goals now are do as much as I can to scare the living daylights out of as many bucks and ducks as possible...  :tease: :tease:

Good luck with the rehab, Phil! :train:
I'd be scared if I was a duck or deer because you've got a lot left in you.
You certainly put them down this year.  :mg:

Dang Phil!!! Sorry to hear that. But then again, I know how you feel. I still feel the urge but sometimes my old body just doesn't seem to have the get up and go it used to.

Got a feeling that the deer and duck populations in Arkansas are in great jeopardy!!

sorry to hear... when a door closes another one opens.

I used to focus every waking second of my attention on elk. It's all I thought about, dreamed about, planned for, excercised for, financed for etc... In recent years I almost feel embarrassed about my disregard for the other opportunities I've neglected, many of which are right out my backdoor. Adventure is where you find it.... when I only hunted elk in sept I found myself pretty unfulfilled. When I looked into other species and seasons I was able to extend my seasons, but more importantly extend my time outdoors with others. Deer camps and duck camps offered a type of hunting that I wasn't able to get in the elk woods. Elk hunting often meant being alone or with one other person and being all business from sunrise to well after sundown. The relaxed setting in both deer camps and chasing waterfowl throughout the country offered a different aspect that elk hunting didn't... not better or worse, just different.

Don't get me wrong, I'm going to continue to hunt elk until I can't but at some point I realized there's more to a hunting season than 2 weeks in September and there's more to life than hunting. Mallards in flooded timber can be viewed as a sickness, whitetails in November is truly one of the most fun things I've ever done and bears.... well being I never understood why anyone would want to shoot a bear I've now become a bear hunting evangelist. I used to despise sitting in a treestand... now I love it, I can't wait for it.

I don't know you or your situation, although I'm truly sorry for the misfortune. I hope like heck your health turns around and you can hunt the mountains again but if you can't, allow yourself to experience other hunts you otherwise may have not gone on. Your not dead, you've just had a set back.... love your loved one's and enjoy what you still do have. Give the ducks and deer heck and take those trips (that are within your physical ability) that you always said you should do.

Thanks folks.... And I do believe when one door closes another opens... The doors are a bit squeaky now but they are still there... This deer season isn't over yet and I'm already planning for next season... Ducks season is in progress too but we've been so dry there is very little water to hunt...
