Who prefers which mount over the other?

Do you have a minimum for a shoulder mount and all others are euro?

Post some of your mounts so I can see what might be on my wall some day!

I am going into this year with this \"idea\" in my head that I will euro mount the elk if it\'s xxx\" or less and anything bigger I will shoulder mount.

I really like the way euros look though.... :dk:

Shoulder mounts take up a lot of room. And they\'re expensive. I did Euros until I killed one that was bigger than a normal \"big\" bull for our OTC unit, and which happened under special circumstances. Had him mounted, named him, published a story about him. Then two years later I killed one bigger. With a giant caribou beside the mounted one and a bunch of other stuff hanging in our main great room the bigger one became a Euro.

Then I killed one a LOT bigger. I wanted that one mounted, so I pawned the first stuffed one off on a neighbor who hunts but never kills anything with antlers. I have visitation rights. I probably won\'t kill one bigger than this one now, but maybe. Guess I\'ll deal with that when it happens. My only other large open spots are reserved for a moose Euro and a bighorn sheep, both of which I hope to get soon.

I have Euro elk on loan to several other neighbors who really appreciate them in their cabins. Even Euros take up a lot of room. My wife and I like them, so we have Euro muleys, elk, whitetails, pronghorns. They all look very cool.

It\'s a personal thing. I know guys who\'ve mounted dozens of bulls and built special annexes onto their houses for them. Others sell the antlers to brokers or saw them up and make knife handles.

When you kill one you want to mount, you\'ll know it.

I\'ll admit I\'m a euro guy.
I have a few shoulder mounts of deer, but I like the looks of a euro way more.
A euro can be relocated in a matter of minutes

Like Lou said, shoulder mounts take up a lot of room and I don\'t have a large house.

Here are a few

Euros are much better, IMO. I began my taxidermy journey by getting \"special\" animals mounted. They are memories, and it\'s nice to have them around, but they do take up a lot of wall space. I\'ve got about enough \"dead stuff\" in the house right now. In fact, I think I have a little too much. I don\'t know what will come of any trophies I get in the future.

Antelope are great euro mounts. I have 6 of them in my view now, and we \"pile\" them around the fireplace.

My wife would like a large Alaskan Moose on the wall someday (wouldn\'t we all?) but that\'s a while off. Until then, I doubt I\'ll have much of a taxidermy bill.

I personally really like the look of euros, but if I ever shoot something that I feel is really big, I\'ll probably do the shoulder mount on it. I can see that becoming a problem like Lou had though...I guess that\'s a good problem to have and I\'ll worry about it if/when it happens!

You guys make my life to much easier!

I really like the way euros look too and I wasn\'t really set on a shoulder mount.

Like you said, they are HUGE and they need to done right or they look too fake. I enjoy doing deer shoulder mounts on bigger deer or special ones because I can put them almost everywhere.

Something about elk euro mounts just look so neat.
Brad, I really like that one you have hanging from the rope.

John, do you have any pictures of those antelope euros?

The way I look at it is a shoulder mount cost so much. Heck that\'s another elk hunt for me. I do the euro mount.

I used to think of euros as a poor persons substitute only. I thought I would do the euros until I got a really great bull. Maybe I am getting older, but now I find myself preferring the euros and have no need to change.

I like them both but my wife likes the shoulder mounts better. I have more euro mounts but the couple shoulder deer mounts I have balance the room out.
