What are the 1-5 ranking factors that make you shoot an elk?

1- Horn size?

2- Empty freezer?

3- Days to hunt?

4- Time left to hunt?

5- Or - Just like dropping the string?

Mine would be 5,2,1,3,4

5,2,3,4,1 for me as well. Don\'t get me wrong, I want a beautiful bull for the wall, but the wife and I love us some elk and any elk with a bow is a challenge for me!

Well my goals have changed a bit:

4,2,5,1,3

I still want a bull but elk is by far my favorite game animal to eat!

I really like to hunt as many days as I can and that sometimes will dissuade me from dropping the string early. I normally set aside at least 10 week days to hunt. Unless something really presents itself early on, I am waiting...

Having meat is never a problem. I kill one or two white tails every year and maybe a pronghorn so I have passed on smaller bulls. (have not had a cow only tag in 20 years). However, if I am hunting with a traditional equipment, dropping the string moves to the top!

Mine is 5, and to add to the \'just like dropping the string\' I would say I also enjoy being part of the 10% club. The others don\'t really factor in for me. I don\'t know if that part will ever change where I\'ll get picky in my typical every-year hunt. Last year was the first time I passed up a shot that was make-able, and it was on my antelope hunt that took five preference points to draw. It worked out in the end, but I prefer not to ever chance it :D

Brad you left out a big one I think. At least last year it kept me from shooting. Had a nice cow walk by me but I had just finished crawling up a miserable Avalanche chute to get above timberline. Not sure the elevation climb buy it was significant. I wasn\'t above to make 2-3 trips back up that Avalanche chute for a cow! And it was 4 miles from the th!

I am sure that would be a deciding factor.
