Finding water

Are there any dead giveaways or at least some indicators on GE to show the potintial of hidden water. Im having dificulty finding areas that I think might have water due to the rough nature of my new area I got drawn for. I have found a couple north benches that stand out like sore thumbs, so if I can see them ANYONE thats ever elk hunted will be all over them, so Im looking for subtle alternates. Water will be crucial for me to find as Ill be there during the first archery season.

Look for aspens in draws. Typically aspens mean water. You can also try using something like flashearth.com, which has a higher quality picture to it than google earth. I assume you have used topos as well?

One other option that I just thought of is to use http://www.mappingsupport.com/p/gma...opography_lines&layers=34,35&transparent=true. Select the t1 map (Topo Google Terrain). That has shown water in spots that the traditional topos haven\'t for me before.

Thanks for link, Ive played with the topos but am not very good with them, especially quickly finding the correct area and zooming in to my area of intrest. Im not seeing anything but what appears to be pines. Is there an easy way to snap an image from there and import into the paint program?

Yes.
Just select \'Print Screen\'
It will grab the image on your screen - open Paint and then \'Paste\' that image in

Hit this button.
You wont see it do anything.
Then open Paint, and select PASTE.
The PrtScn will jump into that application for you

holy smokes, it worked! sorry for the thread hijack.... I will bring this back to my other fail attempt thread.

Yup Aspens love riparian areas, but I don\'t think hunting water will be as important this season because it is kinda everywhere with this wet year we\'ve had.
