First post.

My brother and I are Colorado natives and grew up hunting everything from pheasant, dove and turkey to pronghorn and whitetail. This will be our first elk hunt. We?re meeting in Elk City for the A hunt (rifle, third week of Sept) in Unit 20. Besides conditioning for big wilderness/backcountry backpack hunting, what pointers specific to the Boston Mountain or Poet Creek area. Terrain, weather, etc. thanks in advance!

I'm not familiar with the spots, but wanted to say welcome to the site!  :upthumb:

everywhere that I have hunted in Idaho is steep..... it is usually pretty dry, but I hunt south of there.

You must mean you're hunting the "B Tag." The "A Tag" is Oct. 1-31. I've never been on Boston Mtn but I can almost guarantee it will be some steep, rugged country, seeing that it backs up to the Salmon River. Looks like a low success %, but I would assume that's because not many people can hack it back there. It's a very remote location. There's got to be some good bulls in there. Good luck and let us know how it goes!
