Hey guys,
Just found out (drew my gen big game combo for MT) I will be hunting elk for the first time ever this season. I have an uncle with a little cabin in Emigrant, MT, so that will be my base of ops. I'm from Louisiana (whitetails and waterfowl my whole life)
I plan on tent camping a few miles in from the trailheads though during my hunts.
I've been through the online course, watched countless youtube videos, and have spent an untold amount of hours scouring google earth and onxmaps. I feel like I know 314, 317, and 313 like the back of my hand lol. I even reached out to Corey and Dirk on instagram and they gave me some quick tips. And I've been working on my diaphragm calls in the truck to and from work.
I will make a scouting/camping/fly fishing trip around July 4th. Hopefully that will ease some of my stress. Right now I'm flying solo, as my buddies from here are too wishy-washy to commit to this.
Plan for now is to try to hit the Valley right before the rut and try to call in a bull with my bow. Give it a nice solid week. If I come up short, I may return in mid november with a rifle and hopefully hit the yellowstone migration and put one on the ground.
Just curious if anyone had any experience in this area of MT, or other guys who have drawn that plan to hunt there this year and just feel like shooting the shit about plans.
Obviously no giving up spots on the internet.
