Hello everyone,

I am new to elk hunting and live in AZ and I'm 25 and have put in for elk for the past 5 years and haven't been drawn I've shot 2 deer with my bow here in AZ but never been lucky enough to hunt elk.

Decided to punch the ticket and just do an OTC archery elk hunt in Colorado. I got off September 15-25th. I will backpack in for the hunt.

Please send me a message with any advise or areas you'd recommend for a first timer I have never been to Colorado for hunting so I'm going in blind. I won't have any days to scout prior.

Even if I don't kill anything I know it will be a hunt of a lifetime and learning experience.

Thank you all for your time I truly appreciate it.

You may not like this answer. If you really want it to be a learning experience. You should do the whole hunt yourself. If someone tells you where to hunt. What have you learned? You won't be any better off on your 2nd hunt unless you ask again.

Finding the elk is the most important part of the hunt. Don't let someone else do it for you.

The answer doesn't bother me by any means.

Thank you for the respond so I could clarify!

I guess let me rephrase what I was looking into because I understand it is going to take a lot of work to find the elk on my own by no means am I asking for honey holes or exact trailheads or spots.

Please message me if you can suggest Any area could be a general wilderness that terrain isn't very technically advanced for someone to go for their first time backpacking in Colorado.

Thank you
