When you see a bunch of flagging tape strung thru the woods, what do you do?

Around here I pretty much avoid it because it means there is a city hunter hunting there and they put it up so they don\'t get lost.

It depends on what kind of mood I\'m in at the time... :D :D

Having nice mood day I remove it from it\'s place and put it in my day bag and dispose of it in the nearest trash container.... :upthumb: :upthumb:

Having bad mood day I remove it from it\'s place and put it in some other place so as to confuse whom ever needs confusing.... :upthumb: :upthumb:

But most of the time I just leave it where it as it is so the kids will have something to play with later... :upthumb: :upthumb:

But since GPS has become so popular where we hunt there is less of it to play with now days... :upthumb: :upthumb:

This is one of my biggest pet peeves if not the biggest. If its on public land the stuff comes down and its in my pocket ready for the trash can.

With modern technology there is no reason to take flagging tape and mark a line through the woods. If you want to mark a kill to come back to it and take it down later that doesn\'t bother me.

Heck why don\'t they just get some runway lights and signs to mark the trail to their location.

Depends where it is. In beetle kill areas the flagging is often a perimeter for a logging operation.

Anybody that uses it for tracking purposes is a moron.

Since the flagging was somewhat going the same direction I was, I did my duty and removed the litter.

No logging operations. It was a line to/from somewhere.

I figure ya\'ll would not like the way I dealt with the ribbon warrior... :D :D

I remember a long long time ago in a galaxy far far away we use to not have that kind of problem... Long before \"bright eyes\" we would use reflective tape attached to the head of a thumb tack to light our way to our favorite hunting spots in the early morning hours... Back then it was kind of unwritten rule that if you followed someone else\'s \"trail\" and got to the spot and the folks were there you just kept on going until you found you a good spot... If they were not there when you got there you got ready to hunt... If they did show up then you met new friends and enjoyed a morning of hunting together with them... Like I say that was a long long time ago but in the same areas we hunt today where if someone walks up on you they grip about you having their spot and or setup as close to as they think they can get away with without hunting with you...

Time have change and I find myself wishing for the good ol\' days again... They were a lot of fun back then....

Me?

I am not touching it.
Someone put it up for a reason and it\'s not my concern.

Just like I wouldn\'t want someone touching any of my stuff, I wouldn\'t touch theirs either.
I look at it like this. We see flagging tape and we know someone is there.... they don\'t know we are in there.

You go pulling flagging tape and you\'re dang right someone knows you are there now.

terry and I followed a flag trail, it was removed as we went. the trail never made sense....

Exactly!

This trail of ribbons started within 50 yds of a road and was flagged every 20 yds - sometimes along an old 2 track.

We also followed a trail of tape across that was spread out pretty far between each one. It led us to a wallow that we think someone was hunting. We left that tape as there was not much and we didn\'t want to let anyone know we was there.

I usually remove it especially if it is old.

I also carry out others trash, which I am not happy to do! :x

I remove it. Saves me from having to buy the damn stuff. It makes decent cordage and saves me from having to cut up my 550 cord. Other than that, the only time I would even consider using the stuff would be to mark a kill site for a packer (if needed) to locate the kill site. And I would leave instructions for him to remove it when he left the area. For blood trailing, I use toilet paper!

I figure if some city slicker needs the stuff to keep from getting lost, he shouldn\'t be in the timber anyhow! :agg:

Putting a bunch of flagging tape out is no different than tossing a bunch of trash out there...... IMO

Pull away and throw away!!!

Did I say how much I hate the stuff??? :D

I\'m going to find where you all hunt and make a rainbow forest of flagging tape :tease: :tease: :tease:

m going to find where you all hunt and make a rainbow forest of flagging tape

LOL, thanks for the laugh

So if I head to NM I should just look for a long line of flagging tape in your unit and it will lead me to your secret water holes and trail cameras? :D :tease: :dance2:

What bothers me about this stuff is it lasts forever. It could be sitting there for many, many years and nobody could ever come back. To me its just a bunch of trash hanging off trees.......

A lot depends on when I find the tape, where I find it, and how old it is. If I find it scouting, I\'ll occasionally follow it to see where it leads...might just lead to that wallow Terry mentioned! And yes, if it\'s while scouting, I\'ll remove the tape. If I find it while hunting, I\'ll typically leave it unless it is heading to a spot that I am going to. I don\'t seem to see the stuff near as much as I used to, but still stumble on it from time to time.
