For those who can bait?

In Oregon we can bait for elk. Last year I used a molasses drip(Gatorade bottle with 1/4 full of salt and the rest filled with molasses).

What other baits do you use?

I have only baited bear back in Minnesota.
And I do remember white tails like potatoes but only after they have froze.

Does baiting elk work where legal?

I\'ve been told that it does. A lot of guys will salt but come season they elk don\'t use it much. Was told that after their antlers grow they don\'t need it as often.

Last year I got trail cam pics of elk skipping my salt blocks and going right for the molasses drips. After it stops dripping, they will chew the heck out of the bottle to get more.

They last less than a week before the elk tear them down.

I have used salt, mineralized salt and some syrups such as Black Magic. I have had a few elk lick the salt during the season, but I cannot say I saw any increased traffic there. I still have 3 gallons of Black Magic. Does anyone know how it tastes on corn flakes? It is sure useless as a elk bait.

Goat: I like that idea. A person is not totally committed if they just dip. Pouring it on the corn flakes is an all or nothing prospect, and you can\'t back out if things are not right for you. Still 3 gallons is going to take a lot of strawberries. I hope my freezer can hold all I need and still leave some room for an elk. :)

Just a warning to those who hunt Colorado. You can\'t use a man made salt lick even if you didn\'t put it there. So, if you\'re using one make sure it\'s natural.
