I just posted about this in the \'gear failure\' thread. Anyone have suggestions on a solid, comfortable frame pack? I am hoping there are some out there that help to distribute the weight better than the one I used this year.

I have 2 Kelty Cache Haulers and I really like them.
Comfortable, wont break the budget

Here they are with a 1/2 elk on each

+1 on the kelty cache hauler! It\'s only $129 at sportsmens whare house, probably less on Amazon. i did about 6 months of looking before I bought it and this frame exceeds other frames in two areas other than price. 1st is the load lifters for the shoulders.2nd, is the hip pad, very comfortable. The only issue I have is that the straps are shorter and thinner than I would prefer. I just carry some extra 1\" tubular nylon and parachute cord in the shelf compartment.

I don\'t know which one I would buy today if I was in the market, but it would not be a Cabela\'s Alaska frame. It just does not work well for me.

I think packs are kinda like bows. Not everyone will like certain packs. Different body types don\'t work well with some packs.

Unlike Swede I love my Cabelas Alaskan. Have packed a lot of elk out with it and it fits me good.

I bought a used Kifaru bikini last spring. Not sure what your budget is but I can\'t say enough about mine. I wore it as a day pack and forgot I was wearing it. Packed in 5 miles (bushwacking, up hill) with 40 pounds and it packed like a dream. I like the idea of being able to pack a heavy load on first trip rather than heading to the truck for a pack frame.

Kifaru just came out with a new frame so there are some deals out there.

I have a nomad pack, super versatile.

I flat wore out my Cabelas Alaskan pack.
I got it in the mid-90s and it had packed caribou, deer, elk [dozens] and moose.
The frame just finally gave way from the 20+ years of use.

When I bought my Kelty it reminded me of the Alaskan, so much so I bought two.
In fact, I took the bag off my Alaskan and put it on one of my Kelty frames
