What new gear are you testing on your upcoming scouting / shakedown trips?

I have a new headlight (Black Diamond Spot), cooking setup (pot, cozy), pack (blue widow), and hammock underquilt/bug screen.

The blue widow pack is great so far toting 40# around my exercise route. I still need to see how it works as a day pack. This includes just using the fanny pack.

First scouting trip is July 4th weekend.

Ill be testing out my new Badlands 2200! Hopefully we will have a couple of pack goats to bring scouting but they may not be ready by then. Is this your first foray into hammock camping?
I have used a hammock for the last two years and I will never sleep on the ground if I can help it.

I will be using my Kelty Cache Haulers to move/install tree stands.
If its wet, I will be wearing my new Lacrosse Alpha Burly boots.

Second year with the new setup. Ditto on not sleeping on the ground.

Not much new here ... I guess I better get on it.

I did pick up a pair of First Lite Kanab pants on sale, though, and have been using them quite a bit ... for lounging in the evenings, but also riding horses. Very comfortable.

My son has a hammock now, and I\'m trying to sort out a way for me to try it out ... I\'d like to see how life is \"off the ground.\"

My scouting trips will start in July as well. Gear to test:

1. Kuiu Attack Pants
2. Kuiu Merino Crew Top
3. Arc\'teryx knee caps
4. Kifaru Duplex Frame
5. Kifaru EMR II pack
6. First Lite Llano longsleeve crew
7. First Lite Uncompaghre Jacket
8. REI Trail Lite Gaiters
9. Hornady Superformance 300 Win Mag

nothing new this year, im gonna live vicariously thru you guys. keep the reports coming

Bnsafe, I think Bhuey is testing enough new stuff for a whole bunch of us to live vicariously! :upthumb:

Bhuey, you may have to keep notes. :p I\'m jealous!

Mainebrdr, yeah - don\'t let my wife know - shoot, who am I kidding, she know and just accepts it!

After helping my buddy on a CO goat hunt last year where we packed in 70lbs 5 miles for 8 days and camped at 12,500\', I wanted to upgrade some gear and get new. A lot of stuff I obtained from Black Friday deals (First Lite, Kuiu, Backcountry.com) some from Cabela\'s points and REI\'s annual refund. The Kifaru items were not on sale, but I\'ve been looking at them for a long time, just never wanted to spend that much on a pack. I am expecting it to live up to its reputation - I used a Gregory Denali Pro on that goat hunt, and it was a good pack, but the red color was like a beacon and it wasn\'t really made for backpack hunting. I have 8 weighted points for sheep, goat & moose, 9PP\'s for elk and expect to do a lot of packing in (and hopefully coming out heavy) so I wanted a pack that would fit the bill, hopefully it will be this Kifaru! I\'ll keep everyone posted on the gear in July/August, as I scout for my early season above timberline mulie!

Ordered a new slick 624 tripod w PH111 pan head. Get it tomorrow.

It will get into my pack next scout trip.

Sent via Jedi mind trick.

kryptex koldo rain gear
kryptek aliaos pants

I already tested my 15 degree Eureka Casper sleeping bag to 17 degrees this spring and was toasty warm. I am planning on testing some sleeping pads soon and a cot. I also need to sample some Mountain House meals to see which ones I like best.

Tested a pair of First Lite Kanab pants this weekend. I got them on sale, and really like the feel of the wool. Cut a little on the big side. I spent about 15 miles in a saddle on the day of the photo ... found out that the wool doesn\'t agree with my skin too well against a saddle. Odd, because I wear Merino long underwear sometimes and have never had that problem.

Wish I would have had them on Saturday ... went swimming on my horse in cold water 5 miles from camp ... in cotton jeans.

Note to self: \"bring fire making supplies every time you leave camp.\" Wool would\'ve been much better to have that day.
