Another post about gear that is in your pack got me to thinking about gear in my own pack that I have never used. Here\'s a short list. Add to in if you like.

1) PLB. Never used it and hope I never have to!

2)Signal mirror.

3)Emergency space blanket

4) Small fishing kit

5) First aid kit

6) Small candle

7) Saw

8) Spare knife

There is probably lots more. But that\'s good enough for a starter! :dk:

There was a time I had a long list of gear I brought but didnt use.
Ive done a decent job paring that list down :)

I carry a small pulley in my meat pack to hoist quarters - never used it

Never used a space blanket for its intended purpose, but have fashioned them into a makeshift game bag for the first trip out

First aid kit - have it never used it

My sidearm......

It\'s funny how the first few days I always carry it, but the deeper it gets into the hunt the less I carry it!

That is an item you carry but DON\"T want to use.

I pulled a Nutty Bar out of my day duck bag last year that appeared it had been in there for several years... :haha: :haha:

I always buy some of those Hot Hands hand warmers ever year but very seldom find a need to use them BUT when I need them they are sure nice to have... :D :D

It ain\'t my pack but I always carry a couple of pair of Smartwool socks in a gallon plastic baggie in the storage compartment of our duck boats... Never had to use them yet but others have enjoyed the warmth of a pair of dry socks from time to time...

I used to have the problem with cold wet feet but the older I get the more I spend on GOOD quality and TUFF waders... :upthumb: :upthumb:

I have a ziploc of spare matches, a candle, a whistle, and a spare pencil along with things like a space blanket and a tourniquet...all things I hope to never use.

I\'m surprised at how many of you never use a first aid kit. I carry advil, Tums, imodium, bandaids, moleskin, tweezers, etc. and use stuff out of it all the time.

Things I carry but haven\'t used; whistle, pistol, emergency blanket, a small folding saw, emergency fire starting kit, bandanna. I put in my water filter and jetboil but i\'ll take those out for opening weekend since we\'ll be close to camp. I may put in the Sawyer-mini since they\'re small.

I lightened my load a LOT this year.

I remember the first year my son and I ever hunted. We had gone out in the dark, returned to camp around noon and I was EXHAUSTED! I started emptying my pack and he did his...we had seven knives between the two of us. :lolno: We had a duplicate of almost every item! Seriously, if I remember correctly we had four lighters between the two of us, more water than any one person should ever carry, and our packs were probably twice the weight they needed to be. We still laugh at how many knives we had and no idea why!

I didn\'t use my New Mexico elk tag last year.

Plan is to use it this year for sure tho!

I\'ve never needed anything from my home-made ziploc survival pack, (fire kit, spaceblanket, poncho, ibuprofen, bandages & antibiotics, paracord, whistle, signal mirror, extra batteries, etc.), but have helped other people with several of the items. So it stays in my pack.
