My husband has been out west two years now for elk hunting. He and his father plan on going once a year while his dad can. He is very hard to shop for, hunting wise, but I thought I'd give y'all a try! Any must haves or favorite items that you'd suggest for elk hunting? Any tips would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Do they backpack in, or hunt from a base camp, or a hotel?
Rifle, muzzle loader, or bow hunt?

Well the last twoyears they've stayed at a motel and then they backpack in. This coming year they are planning on camping. They've used rifles the last two years but might try out bow this year.

TAG bags, quality range finder, Havalon knife, good compass, high quality map of their area, a good lantern, good wall tent, quality sleeping bag, boot dryer.....that's all I have for now.

Get a quality wall tent and stay close to where you hunt. More fun camping than a Motel. But a Motel has it's advantages.
