Elk Hunting Plans - 2026

Call me basic but I plan on saving the money and sticking to my home turf again this season (Idaho Panhandle). No out of state tags or applications for me, maybe someday. I've had three years in a row of tagging out and am looking to make it four! I can't get enough of the A tag/Archery season even though the terrain up here makes it miserable at times... Hopefully when what little snow we have melts I can get up into the elk woods and do the pre-season work.
  • Working out 2/3 times a week
  • Gonna hit some 3D shoots again this summer
The wife typically does B tag/Rifle in the same units so best case we fill two tags! That has only happened once though... she is a fair-weather huntress and not ashamed to claim that.

Wish you all the best!

My plans for my elk season this year is to do some more pre season scouting in the east Kootenays in Canada and try to set up more of a game plan on their patterns that way I can cut them off when opening day comes I’m also going to be putting in for a Vancouver Island Roosevelt elk tag this year to hopefully get that draw but that draw is a hard one to get

I hunted elk 0 days last year so am hoping to go as much as possible in my home state of Idaho. Same for deer. Otc archery for elk. Otc rifle for deer and hopefully I will draw an extra deer tag too. I’m worried about fires though. We have virtually no snow in the panhandle and the long range forecast was hot and dry. They are wrong about the weather frequently so hopefully they are wrong about that forecast too.
