Got Scammed...

Well, it looks like I got scammed by a craigslister...my wife\'s SUV needed new tires and with me recently going self employed, I figured I might as well check craigslist and see if I could save a few bucks. Found a guy who had four brand new tires that he supposedly had just taken off another vehicle when it was delivered and put a lift and bigger tires on it. I met him and gave him the $500 for the tires and off I went. The tires are all brand spanking new, so I thought I just made a nice deal.

Long story short, I took them to Discount Tire this morning to have them installed. They were going to charge me a few bucks, but all in all I was going to save over $200 versus going new. The guy looked at the tires and goes \"sorry, but unfortunately we can\'t install these.\" I figured he was making a mistake and thinking they were the wrong size or something, which I knew they weren\'t. But then he went on to tell me that these tires were all over 10 years old...two of them built in 2004 and two in 2006. I had no idea that the tires were even stamped like this, but sure enough it is right there on the sidewall. And evidently even though the tires are brand new, they are not safe to install after that long.

Of course I reached out to the guy multiple times today, but still haven\'t heard anything back. Ironically he responded to every other email of mine within five minutes prior to the sale. My last offer to him was that I\'ll give him $50 for his time and make the assumption that it was an honest mistake. But I have no expectations of hearing back.

My blood is absolutely boiling right now. I cannot even describe the frustration and anger. It\'s one thing to be scammed, but this couldn\'t have come at a worse time for us. The thoughts that have gone through my head of what I want to do to this guy are...well...just not good. I\'m an honest person who trusts others too much and it bit me in the ass today. I\'ll be contacting the police in the morning and going from there, but I\'m guessing they won\'t do much.

Anyway, a heads-up to all my friends here on BTO: if you ever buy tires on craigslist, be sure to check the date on the side!

That sucks!

Maybe take a tire off, take it in and have it mounted as a \'spare\', then take it home and mount it up.
Sure you have to do this 4 times, at 4 different places, but it may work?

I\'m guessing I could find some hole-in-the-wall shop to mount them, but I\'m not willing to put my family at risk. There\'s obviously a reason they have these rules. Unfortunately it looks like I might as well have bought a $500 bag of dog turds...

I have seen old tires...... they crack and split pretty fast after you start using them. so please don\'t!
sorry to hear about your loss...... p.s. I am reminded every day on how most people suck! sorry to be a downer....

If you don\'t want to risk putting them on your vehicle, do you have a trailer they might fit? If they are new and have been kept inside all this time, I wouldn\'t be scared of them.

The tires on my old 86 Chevy are about 20 years old. The tread is still good but I\'m seeing some weathering on them. But it is my farm truck and never sees over 10 miles on any trip.
