I am in the search for a good grinder. Does anyone have any recommendations. I don't want a whimpy one. I want one that can handle a whole elk and not work to hard. Thanks
I love my cabelas 1/2 horse. I run 8+ whitetails throughout the year and 40-50 lbs of pork during our sausage making weekends. It handles it all like a champ. It is very easy to clean and quiet enough to use while the wife watches whatever "housewives/dancing" show is on.
We have the LEM 3/4 horse grinder. While it might be a bit overkill for seasonal grinding of game, the thing is a beast! The foot pedal is definitely a worthwhile investment because it allows me to grind and stuff by myself. I haven't been able to jam it up yet but will keep trying. Looking forward to trying some new sausage recipes this fall.
I also have a Cabelas 1/2 HP model. It has worked really well. It is definitely a step up from the $120 model they sell now, but it was only $125 on a close out many years ago.
Good luck! You will never regret doing it yourself. That is one of the greatest rewards of hunting in my opinion.
