Hello to all and thank you for your time. Me and 4 of my buddies are long time whitetail hunters from Arkansas who have been talking about doing an elk trip for 6 years now. Next year we are going but that's all we have planned...we need help finding the right outfitter.

We are completely open to where and when.
We are all serious bow hunters but aren't opposed to gun hunting on our first trip as we would all like a good chance at filling tags.
We would like guided or semi-guided because we really don't know elk hunting/calling like we do deer hunting.
We are all around 30y/o, in pretty good shape, and not afraid of walking.
We don't want to be dependent on all getting drawn for a tag so we were thinking a place where you could get over the counter or reservation hunt.
We do have a budget but it is slightly flexible up and down. We were planning on around $6-7K.
We realize this budget may not put us in world class bulls but it's our FIRST hunt of hopefully many in years to come.

Thank you in advance for your feedback.
Sincerely,
Matt

Figure out what type of hunt you want, pack in/wall tent/cabin, terrain you are comfortable with, type of hunting you want 1 on 1 vs 2 on 1, spot and stalk vs water holes/stands, what state(s) works logistically for driving/tags, etc, and then start researching outfitters.  I'd start with calling a few of the application services out there that assist with geting folks set up with outfitters.  The one that comes to mind is the Hunting Fool, and I know Cabelas has a similar service.  I've never actually used an app service, but being a Hunting Fool subscriber I've talked with their consultants a number of times to inquire about units I was putting in for and OTC units I was considering hunting and have gotten good input.  Hope this helps.

6-7 k per person you can go a lot of places otc no problem fully guided or semi guided it will just take some phone and key board work. Colorado has a site that the state recommends outfitters
