Would you describe your favorite elk hunting habitat and explain why?
I prefer lower elevation semi arid areas where available water is in short supply. Lower elevations are usually warmer so water is even more important for the elk and waiting there more productive. I find those areas have fewer elk, but spots to ambush a critter from a tree stand is easier to pick.

Hi Swede!

From my limited time hunting archery elk, I\'d say I look for higher elevation areas with north facing slopes that are not easy to get to. Thick dark timber with water sources nearby along with a few open meadows have where we\'ve gotten into elk the last 2 years.

I love the areas that have aspen benches, dark timber (with a good number of wallows/ springs) , and open parks. Like this:

9000 - 9500ft gets my attention first.
Then I look a mix of aspen/pine.
Finding benches and/or flat areas in the area is a must.
I steer clear of big openings
