Looks like the Colorado trip is on hold for the rest of my life... :downthumb: :downthumb:

We went to the pulmonary doctor yesterday late and spent a lot more of his time than any of us expected... The short story is 1) New meds :( 2) I\'m as good as I\'m going to be :( 3) BUT we are going to try a stationary bike to see if I can work up to where I have full use of the 50% of lung function that I now have...

That\'s right only 50% of lung function after the fun and games of November and December...So I\'m just like a 8 cylinder motor running 4 cylinders...  I guess a collapsed lung is worse than we first thought...

Now we have to just try the bike, new meds and wait and see how things go... As of now I\'m still on oxygen all the time and have trouble doing minor things like going to get the mail, walking the dog and even taking a bath... We thought we would get a better report but it is what it is....

I have FAITH that things will get better enough for me to at least go hunting again this fall...

Thanks for all of ya\'ll thoughts and prayers.... :D :D

Stay positive Phil and ride the heck out of that bike! Hopefully things will keep progressing for you :upthumb:

Hopes and prayers are with you Phil. My wife is going through the pulmonary thing right now also. We are just sitting here waiting for results. So I kind of understand where you are at.

Stay positive!! That 8 cylinder that\'s firing on 4 may get to fire on more. There\'s some real powerful 4 cylinders out there and sounds like you have a great attitude your motor will run better.

Phil,
what were the altitudes that you hunted in CO?

I know it isn\'t the best, but NM has areas that have much lower elevations and have elk.
Might be up your alley if you wanna try one last elk hunt!

I started out hunting around 8,000\' and went up to around 11,000\' and end up back down to around 8,000\'.... Not all int the same day or year...

I mentioned higher altitude and the lung doc kinda gave me bad look and sheepish smile before he said no... So I don\'t know what he considers high altitude..

When I get to feeling better, I\'ll ask and see if I get a different answer... And if I don\'t but feel like I can I may get stupid and try one last elk hunt... :D :D

Phil,
there are areas that are around 5-7K that are crawling with elk.
Much easier on the lungs!!!!

Just throwing it out there ;)

love the positive attitude phil!!!!! try the bike, maybe it will help. all I know, is that my father in law had a heart attack back \'12 and was diagnosed with copd, from too many years of smoking.... the point is, is that he gave up and just sits on the couch all day, gained a ton of weight, and breaths, weezes harder now than he did when he was still smoking.
I guess what I am saying is, don\'t give up

Do what the doc says and see what happens Phil.
I bet you\'ll feel much better in no time :)

It\'s time to make some lemonade.... :D :D

I started slowly squeezing those lemons this afternoon on the dusty ol\' bike...

Slowly at first is what the doc said and I\'m following his advice... Did a few minutes today... I\'ve not set a goal yet so we\'ll see how much lemonade can be squeezed out of that ol\' bike by this Ol\' Arky... :upthumb: :upthumb: :upthumb:

Dan brings up a good point about NM. I have hunted it numerous times and the elevation and terrain isnt bad where I was. They also offer limited mobility hunts right during the peak of the rut.

Good points stay positive

If altitude is the issue, I know of spots where there are a bunch of elk in Southeast Colorado...4,000 feet in elevation. You would probably have to utilize an outfitter as pretty much all of the area is private, but it could get you out chasing elk! Gorgeous country as well.

One of the coal mines used to offer a handicap hunt. You could shoot out of the truck and they would dress and load it for you. Your feet would never have to touch the ground.

If you think you might be interested, I\'ll check to see if they still offer the hunt.

I don\'t want you to go out of your way but if you have a chance it might be something I could really work towards...

I squeezed a few more lemons again today... :D :D It was pretty easy so I bumped it up to 5 minutes and that\'s where I had to stop...  Now I have a baseline to work with... I\'ll do 5 minutes each time until that gets easy and then bump it up again..

Thanks to all of you for your support... :upthumb: :upthumb:

I\'m not sure, I just know there is an outfitter in the Kim, Colorado area and there are also some good elk down there. I don\'t know a whole lot more other than that unfortunately, but I can do some research for you if I get a chance.

I may... Just need to see what I might be able to do... I know the high country is out of the question... Not enough oxygen up there...
