I just bought a prime impact and plan on elk hunting with it this year. Any suggestions on what arrow I should use. I'm interested in the Easton axis. My draw us 30" and I'm shooting 70lbs. Thanks
I currently shoot Easton axis and love them. There is a thread on here showing what everyone uses or prefers to use. Everyone has there own opinion about arrows. I am looking at switching over to Victory Archery VAP 1 arrows. They are a little pricey at around 180.00 for a dozen.
Hey Marc, this is sort of general but most carbons arrows; Carbon Express, Beman,etc...are all good arrows. The most important thing is to get the correct spine and weight per inch of shaft. I am shooting 62# draw weight and I like a heavy arrow (524 grains). That weight is high compared to what many shoot. With you shooting 70#, you can easily shoot a 500+ grain arrow. You will also shoot a 340 spine shaft. I also put brass inserts that are around 50-75 grains with a 100 grain point, which figures into my 524 grain arrow. This gives me a good front of center arrow weight.
Once the arrow leaves the bow, it is then all about the arrow....
Marc, I am shooting a 400 spine shaft. I have never checked an arrow with an alumiinum insert against a heavy brass for impact differences. I have shot arrows that have an over all weight difference and the difference between a 480 grain arrow and a 524 grain arrow at forty yards is a couple inches. I would rather shoot the heavier shaft with the heavy front. Read Dr. Ashby's articles on FOC if you haven't already. Look at a web site called the arrow calculator. You can enter all the different parts and their weights, plus length of arrow and what each inch weighs to get the combined weight of the arrow. Another part of the calculator will tell you the KE of what you are shooting.
Not sure I answer your question but I hope it helps.
Look at the black eagle ra mpages. I almost got these but I went with the carnivores instead because my quiver lines to spit out the smaller dia arrows. But the rampages are small like the axis and a good GPI for all there spines.they are also less expensive then the axis and I think way more durable.; O and GREAT customer service. I absolutely live my black eagle arrows. You won't be disappointed. 8)
I shoot a monster safari 82# 28''draw I've tried lots of shafts by far the best one I found is Victory VAP 300's there great if you shoot wind areas and are very stiff, great penetration.
Can get a trial on http://www.pinwheelsoftware.com/ for free use it figure out what arrow you need to shoot. Goldtip's website has good info on the specs you should have on a hunting arrow.
I've shot 7 deferent arrows in the last year seeing what works for me. I was shooting the injextions by Easton, fly great, hard to find a head that I wanted to shoot. Plus you touch something other than a block target with them and the ends explode or mushroom out. I've gone back to the 400 Easton fmj. Shooting 435grains with the gold tip kinetic inserts so I won't have to worry about the hit inserts. This is what works for me. Ive found the broadheads fly better on these. Hope this helps
The problem I'm having is sportsmanship warehouse set me up with a 340 spine arrow when I need to be shooting a 300 spine according to the back of the box. There isn't a 300 arrow there though ghats why they did this. My arrow is accurate but isn't shooting straight at all. Where can I find a good 300 spine arrow without having to order one in Colorado Springs. Thanks
I'm shooting 80 lbs @ 29.5 inches and love my Easton Axis N-fused 300's. Dialed in to a 5" group at 80 yards. I would give Pellegrino's Archery Hut a call and see if they can get some 300's fletched and ready to go for you. If not, I know Full Rut Archery east of Parker has 300's ready to go, just let them know how many you need and what length and they will have them ready for pickup in no time. I think they charge about $11/arrow. They also have the FMJ's ready to go if you're looking for more gpi.
Instead of switching over to Victory Archery i continued to go with Easton and purchased half a dozen Easton Hexx arrows to try them out. I will continue to shoot 400gr and instead of shooting slick trick standards im going to try out Trophy Taker Shuttle T-lock black ops 100gr.
Full rut archery. Awesome thanks a lot. Most places around here don't really seem what they are doing and if they do they are all about making there money instead of setting some of us younger guys up the right way.
