How about some Tips & Tricks

Here is my tip for water purification: Get yourself one of those squeeze type eye drop bottles. The little nozzle on it will pry right off. Clean it out real good and fill the bottle with unscented Clorox bleach and replace the nozzle. It is usually just a press type fit.

To use, add 2 drops of bleach per quart of clear looking water. If the water appears cloudy, ad 4 drops. Shake it up and wait 20-30 minutes before drinking. Depending on the size of the eye drop bottle you should have enough bleach even in the small bottle to treat 40-50 gal.

No more need to waste your money on those tablets that you have been packing around so long you have no idea if they are effective anymore.

Here\'s one I learned right here on BTO.

Brad said to use partially frozen meat when grinding burger ... I tried that last night and it worked like a charm.

No sinew stuck to the blade, etc.

Running with Swede\'s thought on fire starting, vaseline mixed into cotton balls work like a charm as a fire starter. I always read and actually carried these, but last October was the first time I used them and they burn exceptionally well.

When starting a fire in wet conditions, look for dead branches under canopies. Something that can also help is collecting the brown pine needles for your base. This can compliment your other fire starters.

When placing camp, be aware of being in low lying areas and near streams. It will be colder throughout the morning and evening with condensation being more of a problem. Being set up next to water is always nice, but separating yourself a little bit has its benefits.

With the above statement - consider hanging meat near streams for that reason. Always in the shade.

Drill a 1/8th inch hole in the top of you bow quiver hood. Remove the foam insert and place a cotton ball under the hole and feed a small piece through the hole. Then replace the foam.

To use, just pinch off a small piece of cotton and let it drift with the wind current. You\'ll be surprised how well the cotton ball keeps feeding up through the hole. No more need to fumble around for that puffer bottle that always seems to run out just when you need it.

Hunt smart, keep your nose in the wind!

Now that is a good idea.

Can you remind me in August? I\'ll forget before then!

Continuing the cotton ball theme... I put a safety pin through them and attach it to the camo or the paracord on my grunt tube.
