How big to qualify as "big" game?

I grew up in the mid-west.  I didn't learn about elk hunting until I was about 13/14.  I didn't realize for a long time that whitetails were considered big game... they just didn't seem big compared to those elk I was reading about!

So, are deer the smallest "big" game?
Are hogs considered "big" game?

Might be treading semantics here (splitting hairs), but I just thought it was worth the conversation.

In Arizona, Havelinas, which weigh between 35 and 60lbs are considered Big Game. Not sure if Texas considers them Big Game as well or not.

Pretty sure there are a couple of states that consider turkey big game.
