Silly way to ask, but do you do for a living?

We already know we have people from all over the US; ground hunters, tree stand hunters, still hunters, spot and stalkers...... callers  .......jk
but I am very interested in what everyone does.

Me, I hit 10 years in the Air Force this December.
Man time is flying, but Uncle Sam has been good to me so far.

20 years as construction project coordinator for public schools.
Remodel classrooms, new roofs, move buildings, create space, move staff, new carpet projects, new windows, asbestos abatement, concrete work, plumbing work, and LOTS and lots of meetings.

I did sheet metal construction for six years. I now have been at the railroad as an engineer going on 10 years. Time flys by when your driving trains!

Dan, I like the original question. I\'m a construction supt. so I at times have access to materials that have salvage value. I currently have enough copper in tube and wire to pay for this coming September\'s hunt. I have been able to cover the costs of all my elk hunts up to now in this manner. Now if only the cost of metals would go back up!

Interesting you would ask that question because I have often wondered if any one else does something like that.

I work for a county hwy dept. I hope for a lot of snow in the winters to get some ot plowing. This winter was pretty slim.

Software Engineer. Official company title is something like Senior Software Consultant. I have never been a fan of titles.

In the previous decade, I was caught in 2 layoff waves for the 2 recessions. The first one was extremely hard, 2002 CO telecom bust. One winter, I drove a resort bus. Very humbling experience. The 2nd layoff was easy in 2009. Only out of work for 5 weeks. Hence my Wally World camo and cheap first bow when I started hunting in 2010.

My 2002 long-term out of work taught me better finances. I can now afford hunting without worrying too much where the money will come from. However, I do not go crazy buying stuff. I still do not have a LH backup bow. Paying for ear surgeries took care of that dream for now.

If I lived outside of CO, I would have never afforded to start hunting. It is way too expensive for NRs to buy a CO license.

Waste water treatment plant superintendent...before that I managed a fish hatchery. To keep funding our adventures, I just pull money out of every pay check and put it into my piggy bank.

Too Funny... For the last two years been wastewater lab tech/operator. In the past I\'ve been the production manager, tech and biologist for a couple different state, private, and tribal fish hatcheries and aquaculture facilities. Degree in Biology/aquaculture.

Where did you work in MN, might have been at some of the same events as I am in NW WI.

I work for the United States Postal Service. I am a Building Equipment Mechanic at a mail processing facility. I work on Everything except the mail sorting machines. I work on Vehicles, Lawn mowers, electrical, plumbing, HVAC and everything in or on the building. I have been here 20 years and get 26 days off a year to chase elk and deer :D .

I\'ve been a Nuclear Medicine Technologist for 25 years, certified in CT, Nuclear Cardiology, General X-Ray, and Positron Emission Tomography as well.

My Wife is an RN.

There was a time not long ago, that I went in and donated plasma to help fund my hunts.
A couple months of that and I had funded my hunts

I consult with businesses on their benefits package for their employees. Everything from medical to dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, meaning I have been fully immersed in ObamaCare for quite some time now. If your employer offers any sort of benefits package, there is someone like me consulting with them and handling the details of which carriers and plans to go with. My job also involves adding clients, meaning I have to convince businesses that I will do a better job than the person currently consulting for them, and then living up to those expectations when I earn the opportunity.

I\'m a family physician. Used to do most everything -- deliver babies to nursing home visits. Now, mostly outpatient medicine.

Law enforcement until 2005 which was the last year I elk hunted due to disability. I was on disability, both federal and state until I reached retirement age for federal and am still on state disability.

Hey Barry,

I worked at and eventually managed Brandon Fisheries in Brandon, MN. up in till the owners decided the return on their investment was not occurring fast enough and they closed it. It was a hard job and long hours, but I sure do miss it some days.

I work as a campus director for a branch campus of a regional community college. Started this job in March. Before that I was an associate professor with OSU\'s college of public health and human sciences doing community and youth development.

I too take a little money each month out of my check to fund my september pursuit of elk.

Man.....I think you and I would get along great Jeff. I would \"grease\" you up anytime....uh...wait...that didn\'t sound right. LOL!
I\'m sure you and I would have some good stories. Sorry about the effusion....hope it isn\'t giving you any pain and it goes away soon.
I actually have a funny story about the slip system I borrowed from Swede last year. I have been meaning to relay it to you.
My buddy and I ran into some super nice guys last year out of Eugene. We got to talking about hunting (I know....weird right?) and in a nut shell they told me in their humble opinion I was severely handicapping myself if I was calling without a decoy. They told me they had called in a small bull that saw them, heard them laughing (because they couldn\'t help it) and even winded them but would NOT leave seeing that decoy they had. I think it was a Montana. Anyway, it was so jacked up seeing their cow decoy the bull started peeing all over the place and refusing to leave. They thought they were going to have to shoo it away. They said if a bull comes in and sees nothing ,they are out of there pronto! So they highly encouraged me to get a decoy.....I said...\"Oh you mean like this thing\" as I pulled out the slip system. SCHWING! They about shat themselves with how real that thing looks and how big it is! First thing they said is...\"WHERE did you get that?!!!\" And, \"Ya..uh...that will work!\" Anyhow...I didn\'t get very many opportunities to use it but I sure hope to this season! First I have to call another bull in!
It was amazing how absolutely CONVINCED they were that a person is screwed without a decoy.
Anyhow...sorry to hijack this thread Dan....I am bad at that. Now back to our previous posts on funding our crack habits....I mean hunting.
