i was going thru my inventory last night. wiping things down, putting them away. my stuff looks very used. both my deer rifles, i\'ve fallen off small cliffs with them strapped to my back. my shotguns; wading thru briar patches..my face or arms versus using the shotgun to lead me thru the branches..i go for the shotgun all the time.

we got to a HUGE bunch of quail they were surrounded by Mesquite and stuff. we crawled thru. my brother was pushing a over/under Winchester Model 101 (100?) ahead of him. me a beaten Remmy 1100 that i grew up with. tools. we got to the other side, reloaded and blasted away. super fun. but our firearms..sheesh.

i have a buddy that wont let people touch the blued steel on his guns. he wipes them with silk diapers or something. i\'ll die someday. i dont want a safe full of guns that someone will get and savour..if they get my guns, they will be patina\'d.

i dont worry about resale value. (i\'m the same with cars..i am not \"Saving\" it for the next owner)..i just clean them, wipe them down and put them away so they will work the next time i need them to. you?

oh..my bow looks horrid. most of it isnt my fault, ELITE didnt get the best coating on them. just using it chips the coating. the \"new bow look\" went away very quickly. i am gonna tape some of the serious hotspots with GAFFER\'s tape to protect them some.

I use my stuff too. I try and take good care of things so they can be used more, but I don\'t baby it either. Silk baby underwear to wipe your guns. Now that is funny.

My firearms definitely get used, but I take care of them as well. Most of them look pretty decent because I wipe them down, etc. I\'ll get the occasional ding from a fall, but for the most part they still look alright.

i agree, most of my stuff looks nice, but no one is gonna confuse it with being new.

I like the looks of an old rifle or handgun that some of the bluing is wore off.
Something about the contrast of bare metal and gun blue really shows its stuff.
Nicks and scruffs on a wood stock is character.

That\'s what most of my guns look like.
Smooth actions. Like silk diapers

I\'m just like Swede....

Sorry but I don\'t have any use for silk diapers, YET... :D :D

Cliff, while I don\'t baby my rifles, I do try to take care of them. I can remember getting my first real scratch on my wood grain shotgun when a kid and it devastated me!!

The rifle I have been using the last 20 years is a composite stock with a matte finish barrel just for the reasons you stated. It took a beating on my wife\'s hunt but we won\'t go into the details should she by chance stumble upon this post!
