How many days vacation to hunt?

Back before kids, I used to take the whole season off. Now with work, family, and other commitments it\'s tough to
take more than a couple of weeks. This season I have my vacation for the first two weeks already in.
How much time do you all take to spend in elk country?

Being a rifle hunter, my season isn\'t quite as long as some of you. I typically go for a full week, but this year will be cut short due to some additions to the family :)

Hopefully I\'ll be back to a full week by next year.

A week + a day for me [10 days total] , with some long weekends added here and there

How would I know how long I will be hunting. It isn\'t like I can just go ask the elk if they plan to cooperate with me this year or not. I am sure I will have a week of scouting in July, plus a week to setup before the season. The Lord willing, I will be hunting for just a short time then go somewhere to scout. Maybe I will hunt the whole 30 day season. Who said there is no such thing as a dumb question?

I take 2 weeks. with two of those days for driving and a just in case day, if we shoot one in the last minute of the last day. so it ends up that we have nine days to hunt. it worked out due to my schedule that we could, and did, leave a day earlier last year so we had an extra day to scout out the new spots I found on google earth. I hope that it will work out again like that. I spent several hours on google earth last night looking for the perfect elky spot. it would be nice to have some more boots on the ground out there. atleast I have some areas to check when we go out in august.

I guess that I should have said how long to take off during your elk season.
I\'ve killed bulls during the first 10 minutes of opening day, but have stayed in elk camp for over a week or two depending on how long I\'ve taken for vacation.

Baring any surprises, I plan to be out intermingling with nature 10 days minimum and up to 20 days depending on how many it takes. Hopefully I can get it done in the first few and can spend the rest watching, learning and listening with no tag soup pressure.

Why would you say that? I had more fun with it the way it was posted. I knew what you meant. I just chose to harass. :)

last year I had three weeks off. I doubt I will take that much time off this year, but, if I keep traveling for my job I might take the whole mos off. so only time will tell

10 days off on the calendar . With the weekends, that would give us 16 , but ya have to consider a day going & a day coming home. Wish I was in position to take the entire month off. :(

One week this year but I am really looking forward to 2016!! I\'ll be 63 and starting to say \'no\' at work!!

I will be taking the first 3 weeks off in September. This will give me 20 days to hunt and 2 travel days. I will be solo the first week then hope to meet another hunter for a bivy hunt in a wilderness area for week two. I have the third week to try plan B if I am still carrying a tag in my pocket.

I get in at least 20 during the archery season including deer hunting on a few weekends. Last year, I hunted 22 days total and killed my elk on day 2. Yes, I am completely out of my mind for elk hunting. If there is somebody with a tag willing to hunt, I\'m hunting until they make me stop at the end of September.

I normally take 11 days vacation and have 18 days off. This allows for travel to and from Texas and 12 days to hunt. With a recovery day at home before returning to work. This covers archery elk season form me. Then I will have other hunts here and there plus some vacations with the kids.

I\'m going to take 2 1/2 weeks off for elk season this year. Hoping I won\'t need all those days, but I just love spending September up in the woods!

I take the whole season off. I come home on the weekends to help the wife with the kids and keep up the chores around the house, but the rest of the season I\'m at camp. I usually will also go up 3-4 days before the opener. I will be scouting starting next month in April, on average 4-5 days per month with a longer trip in July sometime.
