How Many Years...?

How many years have you been elk hunting? It is always amazing to see how much experience some folks have. At the same time, it is great to see those folks who don\'t have as many or any years under their belts. You have to start sometime! And trust me, hanging out here with some of these knowledgable folks can make someone who only has a year or two under their belts more knowledgable than someone who has 10+ years.

Personally, this year will be #19 for me in the elk woods. Hard to believe that it has been that many years...man, does time fly!

Last year my 11 year old son and I wandered around the National Forest, while I carried a bow. I had an OTC tag in my pocket but I don\'t know if what we did could be considered \"hunting\" by most people.

I guess you could say this will be the first year we will actually hunt.

I\'ll go ahead and say 1 year as my answer but realistically, it\'s more like .25.

LOL!! Well, I can tell you that we have all been there at one point. If I factored in how many times I was hunting where I had a good chance of actually finding an elk, that number would definitely be lower!

Only 36 years for elk. Before that it was whitaile back in the Midwest.

Went on my first elk hunt when I was a junior in HS (1981) as a NR. Went again the following year but had a sabbatical until 1988 when I moved here.
Been full steam ever since.
So that\'s 27 years ?

I\'ve mentioned if before, but i\'ll play along. My first elk hunt in Colorado was in 1954. I haven\'t missed one since.

I\'ve been in elk camp somewhere , every year since 1967. Killed my first elk at the tender age of 17 in 1972. My parents were super & took me out of school every year for the annual pilgrimage to the high country. I may not be as successful as some, but no one has an elk addiction as bad as mine...full fledged addict right here, but man enough to admit it.

I am not exactly sure, but WW and I are in the same range. I too have additional years hunting deer. To be honest, I am more concerned about how many more years I have to hunt. It would feel good if it is 15. That would bring me up into my 80s. I had my physical today, and everything so far is great. They are sending my blood off for analysis.

Started hunting mule deer when I was 12, way back in 1961. When I got out of the Army in 1970 my Dad and I went on our first elk hunt. We tag teamed a nice 6x6. Career, family, and multiple bad life choices took me away from elk hunting for many years. Fourteen years ago I started elk hunting again, but only in the past 4 - 5 years have I started to really learn and become addicted.

So, how many years? I dunno. Too many numbers to crunch.

My family invited me to go elk hunting 8 years ago and I was hooked the first time out when I heard a bull bugle the first morning. Have not missed a year since.

Hunting (elk) for 18...killing for 15!

Killed my first bull on the year my Son was born, one of the best years of my life!

Been going with my dad since I was 10. Hunting since 12. Took 4-5 years off when away completing my undergrad studies. Killing elk since 2007. So all in all about 15 years, with the past 7 years really devoted.

Let\'s see ... a couple times before I moved to WY in 2009 ... once in Colorado, once in Nebraska (cow elk) ... so six total years, with two elk on the ground.

First year in 2000 then 2006,2008,2010,2012,2013. I plan on every year from now on as long as my health allows it. I have been six times. I got an elk in 2012 and should have had one last year if I hadn\'t missed on opening day
