How often do you change a bow string?

My (compound) bow string has to be at least 5 years old but it looks and shoots fine. Should I change it anyway?

Now is the time to do it if you're going change it. Time to get it settled in before season. I've got a string that's older than 5 and shoots fine. Try to change at 3-4 depending on how it looks. Keep it waxed and it could last another 5.

I usually make it at least five.  I had a buddy that pushed too far and found his once hanging bow on the garage floor in pieces.

I went six years on a string and just changed it out last year. But I always kept it waxed, and it was always in a case when I wasn't shooting it, so I don't think a lot of dust or anything got onto it. I figure its an investment why not take care of it. After I switched mine out it seemed to shoot a titch faster....don't know if it actually was, but I would presume so since the old string was probably stretched a little more. My string was wearing a little, but I probably could have got another year or two out of it. That string had a peepsight with the peeptube, I wanted to go tubeless last year and figured if I was going to do it and need to resight my bow in, then why not just get a new string?!?! haha
