since i have only hunted easterns, how different are rios :D i suppose i could read up on them. i just thought that it would be fun to share that i get to hunt them in kansas next month!

hey gary, i have killed a couple, not much different. they will respond to the same things. trees will prob look smaller than what you are use to, at least the ones i hunted around. main thing is they are in more open areas.

man..all i have are Rios. i imagine they are all the same.

every time i try to get all fancy, my friend brings me back to reality..he says, \"you know, i think their brains are the size of peas\". smart? no..instincts honed for survival? yes.

we really should work out a bird trade. eastern for a rio and vice versa..hahahha..

then we can all gang-attach the poor member in florida!!

scott, I had this trip taken away from me once. so I am extra pumped to be able to go again!
what do you mean, the trees will be smaller?
all right, who lives in florida? I am in! although, the wife has conned me into Disney in florida by letting me hog and turkey hunt while down there :D

osceola is all i have left for my slam, someday..
i dont know bout where you gonna be but the trees where i was at in kansas were smaller scrub oak type trees. and alot more open areas. the seemed to flock up more than easterns

Gary now you got me thinking. My wife wants to go to the black hills. I wounder if there is much going on in the spring while turkey season is open.

Gary, here\'s how you do it. Sit real still, draw when they\'re not lookin\', and hit em in the wing butt! Piece of cake!

the black hills was going to be this springs trip. have a cabin to rent already, cheap..... but I backed out to help save for the farm. that\'s not happening yet... its also about the same distance as to Kansas, but I would want to bring a truck since the cabin is on a non maintained dead end road in the hills. I cant remember the elevation, somewhere in the 5k range. maybe next year????? the area is public national forest and lots of it!
scrub trees, eh. I suppose they have to get their butts off the ground somewhere at night.....

To answer your question, just walk out behind Tim\'s house and wait a few minutes.
They come running right into you.

not all of them  some you have to crawl while sneaking up to them and get poison ivy.... :downthumb:

Mine is not pleasant.
I wish I would have shot that coyote now just so I had something to show for it haha

Dang that sucks Gary. I didn\'t get any on me, but I didn\'t sneak around on the ground either. ;)
