i put off my kitchen windows for years. i\'ve alway held out, thinking i was gonna remodel my kitchen and moving things around. so i ignored my two windows over my corner mounted sink. they were looking baaaaaddd...old wooden double sash windows.

i just had my house painted by real pros. they offered to reglaze and seal the windows.but i told them to leave it..and i went and ordered new windows. my painters worked on my house for 3 weeks. sanding, prepping, painting..one wall they painted, and then hated how it came out and sanded it back down. crazy!!

painters showed up and i abandoned my wife for deer hunting. you should have seen the text messages. she was sending me paint colors for me to choose while staring at my tiny phone huddled in a tent. sure..this was crazy argument fodder.

i get back home, the painters finish..and leave. i kid you not, the day after they leave, my windows show up. darn!! i was hoping they would still be around to hide my window install sins. nope..i put the windows into my garage..my wife nagged. hahaha..

i finally got off my butt. i held a pry bar up against my freshly painted trim wood, and cursed. this was gonna hurt..hurt deep. i pry..the first crack showed, wood started to split..and i gave up. i rallies, and tore into the window from the interior. it was a wtf moment. this was either gonna work or not. i had my tile counter in the way, but the window just fit..i almost cried when it fell in. thank goodness i fudged the size and ordered down in size.

i am done!! quick trim work from the inside. quick repair to the damage from the outside. WIFE IS HAPPY. my house is not 100% re-windowed.
i went with less expensive windows in the kitchen. just casement Milgard windows. the rest of the house are retrofit double sash, double hung..Marvin tilt-pacs. a great window.

I replaced every window in my house several years ago using Milgard windows.
I did the same technique - pop off some trim and slide the new window in and VOILA!!
No problems with those windows over the years.

Also,
Been meaning to ask you about the earthquake that happened in your area a few weeks back.
Where you impacted at all with that?

thanks for asking. no impact at my home. none in my neighborhood. it woke my wife and me up. that is about all. my cat and dog slept thru it, so any fantasy of them waking me of and urging me to safety..GONE! i figured i will need to save them. :)

only negative? my good friend has a hunting lease in Napa. we were to hunt together, but his home and his grandma\'s got tossed. they had to sweep up the insides and remove glass. like a typical grandma, she had a huge collection of vases, and glass figurines. KABLOOSH! he said he used a snow shovel. so my hunt got cancelled. but no biggie.
