Its almost that time again, and I am already planning my 2018 hunting year. What about you?

My resolutions for hunting are more dreams.

The physical and mental stuff are always the same for me, so my hunting resolutions are more along the lines of:
- Draw a Gila tag
- Help a new hunter get started
- etc

Mine are:
Duck hunt at least once more and kill at least one more greenhead.
Plant and maintain food plots in our hunting areas of the lease.
Build 1 more low rider stand to hunt next fall.
Turkey hunt again and kill a long beard.
Early Teal hunt again.
Muzzleloader hunt again and be a bit more selective this time.
Modern gun hunt and be a lot more selective...
Help #3 grandson (Griffin) kill his 1st buck while hunting with his Paw...
And let #1 carry over to next years fall season...

Mine are:

Draw a sheep/goat tag
Meet up with some new hunting buds while chasing some bugling bulls in the CO back country
Kill my first Muley

It's almost application time!  :upthumb:

Yes sir !! This is our year !!

My gear and EXO pack are ready !! My pack frame already has lots of Canadian elk blood on it so it's time to get some fresh NM elk blood on it to become blood brothers !!

Shoot my first elk. Montana is looking like the dirt that will be on my boots this year. Just need to do some more research.

That combo tag looks so appetizing!

Planning my 2018 Montana archery hunt, yep, I was planning the minute after I shot my 2017 bull. I am hoping to shot a bigger bull than last year. Then figuring out how to get my soon  to be freshman son out of football for a week, ( won't go this year), my best friend, may have to take a extra week off during rifle season for him. I will have to make some archery elk hunts for him around home for him in NW Montana.

My main resolution will be to put as much time and effort as possible into finding a new area to hunt for both archery and rifle seasons. Scattered success over the past couple of years has me wanting more. Heading into a new area, I know we need to limit expectations but my goal will be for our group to punch at least two elk tags this year. That would put us around 15%-20% success depending on how many folks we have going. Anything more than that would be awesome!

I'm going to do a better job of scouting this year.

I'm taking my son (will be 14) to elk camp in 2018.  goal will be putting him on a legit opportunity on any legal elk.

my dad will be hunting with us, and he'll be my 2nd priority. Dad has taken one cow (first trip, and with a bow!), but not a bull yet.

pulling all that off with the boys school will be a challenge, but having 3 generations in camp is a rare opportunity that I just cant let go unharvested. :)  I would have loved to have elk hunted with my own grandfathers, and that window of opportunity has closed.
