my mom is a cool lady. she is NOT a hunter and barely understands..but since her two sons love it, she was on board from the beginning. she bought us our early guns before we ever got old enough for jobs.

all this time, she wrinkles her nose at venison. not so sure why, i never asked. she is older now..she is also into a 3 week visit with my wife and i. i thawed some deer shoulder, and asked her to show me her green chili stew recipe. i figured if she helped cook the stuff, she would try it.

the extra deep deep red deer meat got her commenting already..\"it smell different\"..well, after a few hours, and me showing her a trick or two..(like popping the entire dutch oven pot into a 300 degree oven for a perfect slow cook)..it smelled AWESOME. we used Hatch green chilies!!

she ate a bowl, and LOVED it. i may have converted her!

good stuff. this deer is going away fast. i need to try to get another one. and soon. so good.

When I shot my deer this year my daughter told me that she would only eat the jerky, nothing else. I made a batch of jerky and she ate it just like she said.

Then, I made some back strap steaks one night and my son and I were enjoying those as a snack and my daughter ate some. She then said, okay, I\'ll eat those and the jerky.

I made my first deer roast yesterday. We had dinner plans last night and I figured my son and I would eat it throughout the week or I\'d bring it for lunches this week. My daughter tried a small bite and she asked for a small plate...even though we had just eaten dinner out. Now, she is convinced she will eat ONLY the roast, the jerky and the steaks. What else is there?! I don\'t have a grinder so there will not be any ground burger...

My wife grew up eating Florida deer and swore she would never eat deer again. She tried this roast and said for me NOT to package it up for lunches...she wants it for dinner tonight.

Two converts this week. :shh:

nice!!!!!!! I learned to cook deer the right way because the wife and boys loved it.....

That\'s great. We used to eat a lot of vension but then all of sudden my wife just kind of quit eating it and fixing it.

I was reading some of the posts on here about people enjoying their vension and elk. She suggested I should be a vacuum sealer if i wanted to keep a lot of vension this year. I hope we get back to eating more of it and really hope I have a freezer full of elk meat someday.

I guess we were both spoiled as far as beef and pork though. We never had to eat store bought meat, my grandpa raised both and so did her dad (he still has a herd).

Once I get a some venison this year, I\'ll probably be hitting you guys up for some recipes.
