Yesterday I walked into K-Mart and they had Texsport nylon hammocks on sale for $10. I\'ve been interested in hammocks for quite some time. And what the heck, for $10 bucks it might be my chance to try one out. My old bones don\'t take too kindly to sleeping on the cold hard ground anymore. So, I took it home and opened the gate to the horse pasture and strung it up on the gate post just to give it a test . HOLY SMOKES! Was I ever surprised. That thing was just about as comfortable as my sleep number bed. And I\'m not kidding.

So the very next day I got on the computer and spent my Cabela\'s points on a really good one. Sure hope I like it as well as the cheapy K-mart one.

I\'ll plan to put it in my daypack and carry it all the time. Even if I don\'t spend the night out, it will only take about 5 minutes to set it up for an afternoon siesta on day hunts. Plus, I won\'t have to worry about bugs crawling up my pant leg anymore! :D

WW, now you have me thinking. I know how dangerous that is. If I hung one about three feet off the ground, would it still qualify as a tree stand?

I\'ve been packing in a travel hammock on day and multi day hunts for a few years now. I don\'t come back to a main camp for lunch, so it is nice to set up a hammock to sit in it to eat lunch and to take a siesta when needed. It is so much nicer than resting on the ground. I haven\'t tried to sleep in one overnight, but having it for rest periods is awesome.

That\'s exactly how I\'ll probably use mine most of the time. But I am going to experiment using a thermorest in it to see just how warm I can stay without the bulk of an under quilt. Hopefully it will work for all of the month of September.

Well, it was 35 degrees this morning so I figured that would be just about right to see how my new double-wide hammock setup would work.

I strung the hammock up and placed a 3/4 length thermorest self inflating pad in the bottom of my Big Agnes sleeping bag. I layed in it for close to an hour and was snug as a bug in a rug except for my feet that had nothing under them. That will be an easy problem to take care of.

I\'m pretty short and the hammock is 10.5 feet long and 6.5 feet wide. So I had plenty of room and I found out that with a little squirming around, I could actually sleep on my side.

Forgot to mention that I didn\'t have any extra clothing on inside the bag. Just my jeans and a shirt. Not even a T-shirt! And I still stayed plenty warm.

That\'s cool ... my son got one last year, and he likes it ... I haven\'t spent a night in it though ... I might get a little claustrophobic ... did you feel that way?

Not at all. I suppose I was enjoying the comfort and warmth so much that I never even thought about it.
