i might be maturing. i havent freaked out yet.

1. my wife\'s subaru started ticking..no knocking. and power went down. i took it in, and they stethoscoped it. the sound was confirmed to come from under a valve cover. i left it there with a worse case scenario, and a best case scenario.
guess what i had. yup..the worse.

the motor was pulled out and the heads taken off and machined. car had 100k miles and at 105k, it needs a new timing belt..so do it while it\'s out and easy. i had them do a few other things, like all the vacumn hoses you cant reach..ever. (they didnt charge for all the hosing). well, car is better.

2. took my truck in for a simple oil change. i cant do it myself because i am in an apartment and i have my tools locked up in storage. they typed in my VIN and said, i have a safety recall!! my leaf springs can snap off, cut my fuel tank and send me to a fiery death driving to elk camp. they insisted on doing the work. okay...i said, \"only do it, if you will move my add-a-leafs over to the new springs\".
\"okay!\"
i was worried and called them back later. he said the suspension was done and the AAL got swapped over and truck was level. i was still worried..but trusted the guy. i couldnt get truck back yet, because i apparently bent a tie-rod that didnt allow them to do an alignment. i waited for the parts and the price was reasonable.

picked up truck yesterday. i almost laughed. not only did they not do the AAL swap, they took my weathertech floor mats out and put them in back to protect me from my gas pedal getting stuck and driving off a to my fiery death going to elk camp.
my truck is so janky. tail dragging. it looks stupid. and it rides stupid. the front aftermarket springs are not matched to the new OEM ones in back. hahahha.. he quoted me $780 for just the OEM springs in front to lower it. if i need new struts, it will be waaay more.

before you ask..my AAL\'s are missing and i dont think they will fit the new springs. looks like toyota added some braces that will conflict the fitment.

i just bought new (to me) OEM toyota parts off of ebay. some guy selling his 2014 spring/strut assemblies he took off when he went with a full lift. $250. i am going to try to strong arm toyota-guy to install them for me..if not, my friends are ready. sucks i have to do the alignment again.

ARGH!! glad i still love the truck. or you know..fiery death.

Sorry to hear about the car woes!

Almost clocked the guy at our tire shop last Thursday. Dropped off truck for oil change and rotate before heading to OK for the long weekend and pickup a small trailer with ATV. Got a call about 20 mins later and he asked \"Do you know all 4 tires are completely worn out on the front with belts starting to show through?\" Oh, how I wanted to reply \"Yep - been that way for a while but thought I\'d go ahead and see how they hold out at 80 mph on my vacation! Here\'s your sign!\"

He couldn\'t explain how they went from wearing well on my last rotation to being undriveable in 3-4K miles on a 60K mile tire! I even reminded him of the alignments I did along the way at their recommendation and the $1K spend on ball joints and idler arms. Granted, the truck has 185K miles so expect some of that to go bad.

Prorated the tires and quote was $963 for tires and 4 wheel alignment. Another tire shop quoted about same price without the prorating and I didn\'t have the time to go get truck and take to other place. Made it very clear they\'d not ever get any business from me other than my lifetime road hazard and free rotate/balance. I guess \"free\" is a little misleading!

Sorry to hear that, Cliff.....

Let\'s buy a 14\" suspension lift for the truck and call it a day

i might be getting old.

i will NEVER lift any vehicle again. disclaimer..unless it is a vintage early bronco or toyota FJ40 or series 60.;)

besides those..i will NEVER lift any new vehicle again. it just isnt worth it to me anymore. i dont live in the country. 98% of my driving is highway/city. 2% of the time, i get dirty and go after some tasty woodland creature.

a stock OEM suspension truck can get it done.

my next rig might be a new GMC Sierra..stop me if i start talking lift kits. :)

Back to old man configuration.
