my deer hunt last week was brutal and filthy. i dont know how i did it, but i managed to scratch the lens. the big front lens.
as a grown man, i damn near almost cried. i saved my $$ for three years to buy those things. i ate crappy home packed lunches for three years. they are 4 years old and i babied them. i kept them in my gun safe when not in use and when i had them in the field i used an FHF bino pouch. i called my wife and she said, \"oh, it\'s probably not that bad..\" she did utter the S-word when she saw it.
i called the man that i bought them from and he said for me to bring them in to let him see. i made the pilgramage to my old city to show him. he visibly cringed when he saw them. he took a look and said he could see the light flare a bit. so we elected to send them back to Germany. he said his shop moves a lot of Leica products, so he is 50/50 on if the company will charge for the repairs.
i will need to use my old Pentax in New mexico in a few weeks. hell, probably my Jan AZ hunt as well. i cant imagine this being a fast process. he wouldnt even venture a guess as to how much this is gonna cost me. maybe he didnt want to say in front of my wife
he did try to make me feel better. he said it is good i use them. and he did say Leica might not be happy with my modification in which i installed a tripod post. oh-o. i hope my glass goes across the desk of a happy German technician.
i kinda wish they were Vortex at this point. that no-fault warranty looks awesome right now. i wish i knew what i did to damage my binos.
