my deer hunt last week was brutal and filthy. i dont know how i did it, but i managed to scratch the lens. the big front lens.

as a grown man, i damn near almost cried. i saved my $$ for three years to buy those things. i ate crappy home packed lunches for three years. they are 4 years old and i babied them. i kept them in my gun safe when not in use and when i had them in the field i used an FHF bino pouch. i called my wife and she said, \"oh, it\'s probably not that bad..\" she did utter the S-word when she saw it.

i called the man that i bought them from and he said for me to bring them in to let him see. i made the pilgramage to my old city to show him. he visibly cringed when he saw them. he took a look and said he could see the light flare a bit. so we elected to send them back to Germany. he said his shop moves a lot of Leica products, so he is 50/50 on if the company will charge for the repairs.

i will need to use my old Pentax in New mexico in a few weeks. hell, probably my Jan AZ hunt as well. i cant imagine this being a fast process. he wouldnt even venture a guess as to how much this is gonna cost me. maybe he didnt want to say in front of my wife :)

he did try to make me feel better. he said it is good i use them. and he did say Leica might not be happy with my modification in which i installed a tripod post. oh-o. i hope my glass goes across the desk of a happy German technician.

i kinda wish they were Vortex at this point. that no-fault warranty looks awesome right now. i wish i knew what i did to damage my binos.

I would imagine they can repair it. At what cost....who knows. They might be able to polish it out but by your description I bet it needs a new lens. The biggest cost between cheap and expensive optics is how well the can polish that glass to get it clear.

The lens of my Fluke IR Thermography camera at work cost 7k by itself. The camera list for 30k. We got them for 10k because our company bought so many. I am very very careful with it!

sorry to hear that, cant imagine. i hope they can get if fixed cheaply an quickly

Something to think about??
I know they are not Leica, but Vortex makes some darn nice optics. Over the years I have gone through Swaro, Leica and Zeiss binocular and now own a pair of Vortex Viper HD\'s for about a third of the cost of the \"big three\". I spent many long hours comparing the top tier optics with Vortex and for me, the cost of top tier binocs does not rate the huge price difference.

On the plus side, you can throw a pair of Vortex optics out the window of your truck, run over them and they will replace them with no questions asked. Not that I would, mind you, but their warranty is \"repair or replace\" no questions asked.

Give them a try and you may be liking them.

I\'m gonna do exactly that. I think I\'ll buy a pair of Razors. My wife is gonna be pissed but my old Pentax glass is the worst. I found ZERO deer with them. Not a single one.

i got the green light from my personal finance dept to buy the vortex TODAY!! i kid you not..i was just about to buy them, but held off because i found them on amazon PRIME the cheapest. and i needed my wife\'s PRIME account. so i was waiting for tonight.

the LEICA shop just called. my glass is back and repaired for free!! i am stunned, and so is the shop manager. he said they just showed up unannounced.
