But unfortunately there is still over 40 inches of snow to get in there.
And once that melts, I still cant get there due to river runoff.

Gonna be late June

Dang

No kidding. Maybe July for some of my places.

The mountains got hammered with more snow last night.

Same here. My area received about a foot yesterday.

Looking at GE is starting to get old. I need to put some feet on the ground.

It\'s going to be pretty wet up there come hunting season. Maybe watching water holes won\'t be a good tactic if water is everywhere.

Scouting? At this point I\'d just like to see the mountains. Been working in Georgia all winter and I\'m mountain deprived.

My area is open. I just have to get some information and I would like to get started looking around and prepping some stand locations.

I am concerned about calving season. At least south facing slopes may be okay with a fast warm up.

Even before this latest storm, I knew scouting wasn\'t too practical until mid June for my area.

If the late snow keeps the wildfires away this year, there will be silver lining.

Looking forward to seeing everyone\'s trail cam pictures this summer.

I was in colorado the last 2 weeks of sept 2013 and it snowed like crazy. I\'m from oklahoma so i don\'t get to see much snow and I wasn\'t prepared. Is snow in sept a common thing there on the mtns ??

It\'s really unpredictable at high altitude. Anything from 80\'s to a blizzard.

Sniper, The snowpack was light this year where we hunt, and they are getting ready to turn the cattle out early. Expect a dry season unless we get late rains. I hope to get over there before July, but I don\'t know for sure when I may leave.

Thanks Swede. A dry season, minus any fires, could be good for waterhole ambushing. Turning the cattle out early? Is that a good thing or bad?

I\'m gonna try to get over there in early July.

I\'ll be able to scout some lower country I\'ve been eyeing in June ... but my usual camp will have to wait for July.

It\'s going to be a terrible mosquito year, I think.

Very frustrating ... I\'d really like to hit the mountains this weekend ... after all, it\'ll be 70 or so ... but I can\'t even get into where we usually hunt sheds yet.

John: I assume you are referring to public land. Range use is on a documented grazing schedule. You can get that information from the local land manager. Some places the schedule and grazing standards are enforced. Sometimes these things are not much more than a suggestion. Where I hunt on the Malheur N. F., aka Manure N. F., the grazing management is lousy.

In areas I hunt the grazing allotment is from July 1 - September 30. The cowboys are typically gathering the last week of September.
Old cows that know the drill are already drifting toward the gates by that time.

Usually cattle are on an allotment for a period from maybe July 1 - September 30, but allotments are divided up into pastures. You will likely want that information to know where they are, have been, and will be. For that information get a copy of the grazing schedule.
